- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care and practice activities- Provide care in a multidisciplinary, family-centered environment- Provide chemotherapy and biotherapy services in the Oncology Clinic- Advocate for patients and caregivers- Facilitate treatment and patient/family education- Apply Principles of Adult Learning- Participate in continuous education opportunities and workshops- Utilize protective equipment and identify and report hazards- Collaborate as a dynamic team player in a supportive oncology departmentRequirements- Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario- Current BCLS and Ontario Certificate of Competency- Completion of deSouza Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy and Biotherapy certification at time of hire/transfer or successful completion within 6 months of joining the department- Completion of the deSouza Foundations in Oncology Nursing Practice or successful completion within 1 year of joining the department- Minimum 1 year of current RN acute care experience- Experience initiating IVs and management of central venous catheters and venous accessing devices- Current experience in Oncology or Palliative coupled with experience in administration of chemotherapy and biotherapy preferred- Demonstrated critical thinking and nursing assessment skills for medically complex patient/family populations- Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment focused on patient centered care- Ability to effectively apply Principles of Adult Learning for patients and families- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills- Excellent documentation skills- Demonstrated focus on internal/external customer service and partnership- Values consistent with SHN’s Code of Conduct- Commitment to a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation- Ability to utilize protective equipment and identify and report hazards- Ethical conduct and appreciation of patient, staff, and community diversity- Excellent work performance and attendance record- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is an asset- Oncology certification through the Canadian Nurses Association is an asset- Ability to speak another language is an assetCore CompetenciesDemonstrates expertise in Oncology Nursing, including the administration of chemotherapy and biotherapy, while advocating for patient-centered care and utilizing adult learning principles for effective patient and family education.
