The base salary will be $76,490 - $109,190 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate’s experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.

Responsibilities
The Manager, Administration and Finance (MAF) will be accountable for managing the day-to-day business operations of Western Research's Animal Care and Veterinary Services (ACVS), including the core areas of administration, human resources, finance and supply chain. The role will provide leadership in the development and implementation of operational and strategic plans to ensure both the current and future needs of the University are met. The MAF will support the development and administration of Departmental policies, practices, procedures and processes to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of services to Western's research community.

The MAF will provide comprehensive consultation and expert guidance to the senior leadership team on a variety of topics to identify key business risks and opportunities. The MAF will ensure due diligence has been performed with respect to adherence to University policies and procedures, and compliance with relevant legislation and regulatory guidelines. The role will provide leadership in the design and execution of risk mitigation strategies, ensuring appropriate monitoring and controls are in place.



The MAF will lead continuous improvement and change management initiatives to support a collaborative team-based culture and identify and report on key performance indicators to measure and communicate the status of core business areas against department goals and objectives. The role will also provide leadership in developing and executing initiatives and courses of action to sustain and enhance the performance of the unit.

Qualifications
Education:

Undergraduate Degree; in Business Management/Administration preferred

Master of Business Administration (MBA) preferred

Completion of or working towards Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Designation, and/or Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) preferred

Supplemental designation in an ancillary discipline such as Supply Chain Management, Information Systems, Industrial Engineering or Operations Management preferred

Certification in Lean, Six Sigma, Project Management or Change Management preferred

Experience:

7 years' administrative, human resources, and financial management experience in a complex environment

Experience in operational and strategic planning, execution and performance management

5 years' experience directly supervising staff and leading medium to large projects

Experience in a unionized environment

Experience managing in a multi-site production or process operation preferred

Experience in a highly regulated setting with multi-level compliance programs preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of administrative and operational procedures, best practices for assessing, developing and implementing new business processes and procedures

In-depth knowledge of financial budgeting and principles, Human Resources principles and practices, Employment Standards Act and other relevant legislation

Knowledge of best practices in building a strong collaborative team and leading people





Analytical skills in the areas of financial and business management to draft budget proposals, monitor and audit accounts, revise forecasts and projections

Ability to organize and effectively manage financial and human resources needed to achieve results

Communication skills with the ability to converse with, write reports for, and deliver presentations to all levels of the organization

Ability to ensure confidentiality and privacy is maintained through the appropriate retention and destruction of information

Advanced judgment, analytical and problem-solving skills with a consultative and cooperative approach to addressing issues and opportunities.

A well-defined sense of diplomacy including solid negotiation, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills

Ability to promote individual growth by encouraging others to learn new skills and develop themselves

Project management skills to champion a project from conception to completion, and to ensure that team roles are clear, milestones are communicated, and deadlines are met

Ability to quickly re-allocate resources and adjust priorities in response to unexpected events or changing circumstances

Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite

Results-oriented with the ability to motivate and coach employees to meet high performance standards, while working effectively as a member of the leadership team

Influential interpersonal skills that build positive and strong relationships at all levels of the organization

Familiarity with University policies and procedures preferred
