POSITION OVERVIEW
Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for an AuxiliaryCourt Liaison Officer to join our Information Management and TechnologyDivision, within the Corporate Services Bureau. Reporting to the Court ServicesManager and under the supervision of Court Liaison Supervisor. The incumbentwill assist Surrey Police Service (SPS) internal and external stakeholders witha variety of complex prejudicial administrative duties and responsibilities.This job requires complete storage of top-secret information.
Schedule / Hours of Work
To be eligible for this auxiliary position, incumbents must haveflexible availability and be able to commit to a minimum of two (2) shifts permonth. Shifts may include weekdays, evenings, weekends and holidays. Assignedshifts may be prescheduled or by call-in. This is an on-site position and theanticipated work schedule for the base full-time position is 37.5 hours perweek. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needsand adherence to the Collective Agreement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Reviews andassesses reports, files, and documents to crown counsel for completeness,clarity and evidentiary compliance and makes recommendations, as required.
Analysesreports on charges for validity and ensures that the case fact record iscomplete and prepared for presentation in court.
Facilitatesthe criminal case management process by liaising between crown counsel and theinvestigating police officer.
Confirms theexistence of outstanding warrants for arrests made for other detachments ofpolice forces and arranges for remands to return prisoners to jurisdiction ofwarrant.
Processes therelease of prisoners from the cellblock and ensures that proper court documentsare completed and served on the accused.
Acts as acommissioner for taking oaths in swearing of affidavits and swears informationbefore a justice of the peace.
Arranges withthe sheriff’s department for prisoner escorts as required.
Liaises witha variety of internal and external contacts including federal and provincialcrown counsel, the federal justice and attorney general departments, the courtregistry, other court related agencies, and other police detachments on mattersrelated to the criminal case management process.
Ensurespolice witnesses receive notification and de-notification of court attendance.
Deliverscollected fine monies to the cashier supervisor, court registry, and ensuresreceipt of monies is delivered.
Developspolicy changes and institutes policy, subject to management approval.
Providesorientation and training to new court liaison employees.
Providesdirection to SPS police officers in the proper usage and completion of formsfor case documentation and apprises them of pertinent case law and policy.
Responds toinquiries from the public, clients, staff, and various other agencies.
Acts as aresource person for consistent interpretation/application of policy,regulation, and the law.
Monitorscourt schedules to ensure police officer availability on scheduled court datesand resolves court scheduling conflicts.
Directs the records section on modification of files.Ensures thatreports are forwarded to appropriate destination.
Performs OSRscoring of all charge files.
Checks CCJSscoring and updating on files.
Prepares,monitors, and maintains a variety of files, records, and manuals.
Prepares andprocesses other administrative work, as required.
Providesbackup to other staff in the work area, including the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of Grade 12,supplemented by related courses
Minimum five years of relevantexperience
An equivalentcombination of education and experience may be considered
Thisposition requires both SPS Security Clearance and RCMP Reliability Status. All applicants must obtain and maintain the required policesecurity clearance throughout their employment with SPS, which includes a mandatory polygraphexamination .

The salary range is $42.17 /hour - $ 49.68 /hour (paygrade 24B) based on 2026 rates.
