Forklift Driver – Receiving & Lumber Picking

Alberta Truss is looking for a reliable and safety-conscious Forklift Driver to join our receiving team.

This position is responsible for receiving incoming lumber and materials, organizing inventory, and picking and supplying lumber to the sawyers for production. The successful candidate will play an important role in keeping material flowing efficiently through the plant.

Responsibilities

- Unload incoming lumber, plates, hardware, and other materials from delivery trucks
- Safely operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment
- Inspect incoming shipments for visible damage or shortages
- Confirm received materials against delivery paperwork
- Organize and place lumber and materials in the correct storage locations
- Pick lumber according to production requirements and supply the sawyers with the correct lumber
- Ensure the sawyers have the required lumber available to keep production moving
- Move and stage lumber for upcoming production as required
- Return unused lumber to the correct storage locations
- Help maintain accurate and organized lumber inventory
- Keep receiving, lumber storage, and yard areas organized and free of hazards
- Assist with inventory counts and identify low, missing, or incorrect stock
- Communicate shortages, damaged materials, or receiving discrepancies to management
- Work closely with the sawyers, production team, and supervisors to ensure materials are available when required
- Perform basic daily forklift inspections and report any equipment concerns
- Follow all company safety procedures and policies
- Assist with other shop or yard duties when required

Requirements





- Previous forklift experience is required
- Experience handling lumber or long building materials is an asset
- Experience picking lumber or supplying material to production is an asset
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Able to work safely in a busy manufacturing and yard environment
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail
- Able to accurately identify lumber sizes and lengths
- Dependable and punctual
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Physically capable of performing the duties of the position
- Valid driver's licence is an asset

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who understands that keeping the saws supplied with the correct lumber is an important part of keeping production moving.

The ideal candidate is organized, safety-conscious, able to plan ahead, and comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Experience in a truss plant, lumber yard, building supply company, manufacturing facility, or similar environment would be considered an asset.
