The role is open to people in and around Calgary, and Edmonton, AB, as the work is completed at job sites in the area.

Key Responsibilities

- Under the supervision of a Journeyman PSE the apprentice will: Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair high-voltage power systems equipment in substations, including transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, buswork, protective relays, and control systems.
- Perform terminations, splicing, and testing of high-voltage and control cables.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, one-line diagrams, and manufacturer's instructions to ensure accurate installations.
- Conduct functional testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of protection and control systems.




- Perform routine maintenance and inspection activities on substation equipment as per scheduled programs.
- Collaborate with engineering and project teams to resolve technical issues and implement design changes in the field.
- Maintain detailed records of work performed, test results, and as-built documentation.
- Adhere to all Alberta OHS regulations, Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), and FireFly safety standards while working in energized and de-energized environments.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

- Indentured into the PSE trade
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Meet pre-access drug and alcohol testing requirements
- Have knowledge of Electrical Utility code and Occupational health and safety rules as they relate to the role.
- Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, at heights, and in confined spaces.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
