Outdoor Educator – After-School, Little Explorers and Seasonal Camps

Overview

Nature & Community Exploration Club is seeking confident, creative and self-directed Outdoor Educators to join our mobile, nature-based programs in South Surrey and White Rock.

Our programs serve children approximately three to five years old through Little Explorers and approximately five to twelve years old through After-School Explorers.

We also offer Pro-D Day, Spring Break and Summer Camp programs for the same respective age groups. This is a hands-on outdoor role for someone who enjoys working with children to foster a love of nature, movement, play, creativity and meaningful community connection.

Full-time, part-time and casual combinations may be available, including morning, afternoon and seasonal camp shifts.

Duties

Plan and facilitate age-appropriate outdoor activities, games, arts and crafts projects and learning experiences.

Adapt, contribute to and deliver nature-based curriculum based on children’s ages and interests, program locations, seasons and weather.

Create meaningful opportunities for child-led play, exploration, creativity, friendship and connection with nature.

Provide active supervision and support children’s physical, social and emotional well-being.

Use respectful, inclusive and developmentally appropriate behaviour-guidance practices.

Independently lead groups of up to approximately 12 children and work alongside additional staff when group size or program needs require.

Prepare materials and complete required setup, attendance, documentation and cleanup during paid working time.

Use the app Lillio, Google Sheets and other approved program systems confidently, accurately and confidentially.

Select safe and engaging exploration locations and identify suitable covered-weather alternatives.

Communicate professionally with families, employees and program managers.





Care for program supplies, first-aid materials, tools and equipment.

Demonstrate, guide and teach Junior Leaders who are present, coordinating with their

Manager to support their learning and integration into regular programs.

Participate in school pickup and transportation and operate organizational vehicles when properly licensed, authorized and assigned.

Qualifications

At least one year of relevant teaching, child-minding, camp, recreation or outdoor-education experience is preferred.

Responsible Adult certification, ECE certification, relevant education or equivalent practical experience.

Confident and self-directed, with the ability to independently lead a group of children.

Strong judgment, reliability, initiative, organization and communication skills.

Able to remain calm, responsive and solution-focused when plans, weather or children’s needs change.

Enthusiastic about nature and outdoor learning and comfortable working around animals.

Comfortable working outdoors in varied weather and travelling between program locations.

Current first-aid certification or willingness to obtain it before beginning independent duties.

Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check.

Valid minimum Class 5 driver’s licence and clean driver’s abstract.

Unrestricted Class 4 driver’s licence or willingness to obtain one.

Hours and Compensation

Full-time, part-time and casual combinations may be available.

Little Explorers shifts are generally 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.





After-School Explorers shifts are generally approximately 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., including required preparation and cleanup.

Additional Pro-D Day, Spring Break and Summer Camp shifts may be available.

After-School duties: $24–$26 per hour.

Little Explorers preschool-focused duties: $25–$28 per hour.

The applicable rate depends on qualifications, experience and assigned responsibilities.

An additional 4% vacation pay is paid on each paycheque. Approximately four weeks of unpaid program closures are scheduled each program year and may be used as holidays. End of June, end of August and two weeks during school winter closure.
