About Us and Why We’re Hiring
Working at Service Objects
Since our founding, Service Objects has worked to be the data science company that puts people above all else. First, we created an amazing place to work and then we created products that make life better for everyone that uses them.
We are guided by focused core values, purposeful, and a high energy culture. Our mission is to provide our clients with tools so they can be sure every customer record in their system is as genuine, accurate, and up-to-date as it possibly can be.
We’ve been in the data science business for over 25 years: we’ve never taken VC and have been profitable since day one. We plan to double that success over the coming years with the release of new products that continue to reshape data science. This is your prospect to bring your initiative to a growing team and build a career at a company with a legacy of creating products that reduce fraud and eliminate waste.
Technical Support Engineer
Service Objects is looking for a technically curious, hands-on problem solver to join our team in a part-time role combining technical customer support, API troubleshooting, data analysis and QA testing.
What You'll Be Doing:
Technical Support, Data & Troubleshooting
- Investigate and reproduce customer questions and issues involving Service Objects APIs.
- Use API requests, test data, SQL, and internal tools to identify the cause of technical or data-related issues.
- Write SQL queries to research data, identify anomalies, and perform controlled updates when needed.
- Clearly communicate technical findings to both technical and non-technical customers.
- Work with development and data teams when deeper investigation is required.
API Testing & Technical Operations
- Test individual records and batches of data through Service Objects APIs.
- Review API responses for accuracy, consistency, errors, and unexpected behavior.
- Create test cases, reproduce issues, and regression-test fixes.
- Document findings so developers and R&D; staff can quickly understand and reproduce problems.
- Run existing projects and internal utilities, modify test inputs or configurations, and review results.
Brief Qualifications:
- SQL: Working knowledge of SELECT, JOIN, WHERE, GROUP BY, INSERT, and UPDATE statements.
- Programming: Basic experience with C#, Python, or another language, with the ability to read and understand existing code.
- Tools & Data: Comfortable with Visual Studio or a similar IDE, APIs, CSV files, and structured data.
- Troubleshooting: Able to investigate problems methodically, recognize unusual results, and compare expected versus actual behavior.
- Communication: Able to clearly document and explain technical findings.
Service Objects provides APIs for validating and enhancing contact and location data through REST/HTTP and SOAP services. This role is a good fit for someone who enjoys troubleshooting, working with data, testing APIs, and learning how software systems behave.
Competitive Compensation
We’re committed to equitable, market-driven, data-based compensation and we aim to offer a competitive benefits package to our team members. The rate for a candidate living in the state of California is $32.47-34.59 per hour based on 1-3 years of experience.
Part-Time Position
This is a part-time position, making it well suited for an experienced technical professional looking for a reduced schedule, a technically strong student or recent graduate, or someone interested in adding meaningful hands-on technical work to their schedule.
We're looking for someone who can become productive and increasingly independent rather than someone who needs to already know every Service Objects product on day one. We'll teach you our services and systems; you should bring the technical foundation, curiosity, and willingness to dig into problems.
This is a temporary (about 4 months) part-time, non-exempt, remote position. We estimate this role to be scheduled approximately 20 hours per week.
What Success Looks Like
You’ll become someone the team can rely on to:
- Independently investigate technical and data-related questions.
- Use SQL to research issues and safely perform straightforward data tasks.
- Reproduce, troubleshoot, and evaluate API and batch results.
- Recognize unusual results and investigate the cause.
- Build useful test data and clearly document findings.
- Know when to solve an issue independently and when to involve a developer or subject-matter expert.
If you enjoy APIs, data, debugging, and solving technical puzzles—and want a part-time role where you can use those skills regularly—we’d like to hear from you.
