The Quality division is working safely, ensuring standards and requirements are met, and identifying gaps in performance through independent oversight and continuous improvement, to support safe operations and project excellence.

On a shift basis, the Quality Technician II is instrumental in ensuring a world-class support service to deliver Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) of various site components and systems using radiographic, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, visual or other methods.

Carry out surveillance of site welding activities.

Use and maintain NDE instruments & equipment.

**What will you be responsible for?**

+ Perform NDE as qualified in at least four of the following inspection methods: Radiography, Ultrasonics, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle for which a current CAN/CGSB-48.9712 certificate must be held.

Certification in Eddy Current is not a priority but may be considered to meet certification requirements on a case-by-case basis.

CGSB certificates must be held at Level II.

CSA W178.2 (Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) Level II may be considered equivalent to one CGSB Level II certification.

Similarly, The ISO 9712 certification for Phased Array Ultrasonics (PCN and CSWIP) may be considered equivalent to one CGSB level II certification
+ The assigned inspection duties will include various pressure boundary components, welds and supports, lifting equipment and other equipment designated using any of the above methods, or Optical/Visual, or other inspection methods.

Prepare or assist in the preparation and presentation of detailed inspection reports, including the use of visual aids
+ Obtain & maintain core qualifications in Bruce Power Pressure Boundary Inspection Program
+ Conduct Relief Valve Certification – Independent Witness tasks in support of the Quality Program for Testing & Repair of Pressure Relief Valves
+ Perform NDE to satisfy the CSA standards requirements of in-service periodic inspection programs N285.4, N285.5 and CSA N285.7
+ Perform weekly performance calibrations, perform inspections and generate inspection reports as required in ultrasonic, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle and visual inspection methods.

Proficiency demonstration testing to be completed to demonstration the examination personnel’s capability to conduct an examination in accordance with an approved non-destructive examination procedure
+ Monitor welding activities (including pressure boundary, structural and procedure/welder qualification welds) and the associated documentation to confirm that correct welding procedures and techniques were employed.

With general direction, verify that the applicable codes or standards specified are correct
+ Prepare NDE procedures and techniques to the level of CGSB qualification attained.





Produce accurate and effective Techniques to support the various inspections and examinations carried out by Inspection crews
+ Supported by qualification and experience, provide advice upon request to and liaise with maintenance work groups and contract companies that are involved with work requiring welding and inspections.

Items such as material specifications, deficiencies, substitutions, welding procedures, inspection procedures and other matters of concern are examples of this support
+ Participate in training programs as required to achieve full capability within the various corporate safety and business processes necessary to function in the workgroup and its working environment
+ Establish contact and working relationship with engineering, maintenance, operations and work management staff.

Establish contact with personnel of other departments, supply/service agencies and local representatives of applicable jurisdictional authorities as required to facilitate the performance of inspection and related activities
+ Assist Supervisor in the preparation of detailed work plans identifying manpower and equipment requirements for performance of specific inspection programs
+ Maintain a working knowledge of station systems, work practices, procedures, applicable codes, and regulations, and be aware of developments in the field of NDE through attendance at appropriate courses and lectures or through technical literature
+ Perform other duties as required

**Knowledge and Skills**

+ Requires knowledge of the relationships and interactions of the various Departments and Sections involved in the fabrication, modification, maintenance and repair of pressure boundary components
+ Requires knowledge of material science, industrial metallurgy, physics, chemistry, and industrial methodology related to the field of Non-Destructive Examination (NDE), to perform such examinations and the technical analysis of relevant inspection results to the level certified
+ Requires an understanding of mechanical and electrical principles necessary to operate and maintain complex electromechanical devices used in the performance of NDE and precision measurements
+ Requires knowledge of technical writing skills to prepare clear, concise reports and knowledge of the English language to communicate effectively at all levels with personnel associated with Inspection and Maintenance
+ Ability to work under pressure, adapt to changing priorities and meet deadlines
+ Requires excellent level of written and verbal communication skills

**Education and Experience**

+ Requires knowledge normally acquired either through the successful completion of Grade XII in a Secondary, Commercial or Technical School plus a two-year course of concentrated study in appropriate subjects obtained in an accredited College of Applied Arts and Technology, Polytechnical Institute or Community College for Welding Engineering Technician, NDE Technician or Manufacturing Technician or equivalent level of education
+ Requires successful completion of Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB), Canadian General Standards Bureau (CGSB), Certified Exposure Device Operator (CEDO) certifications
+ Requires completion of CGSB 48.9712 Level 2 training and testing
+ A period of over 6 years and up to and including 8 years of field experience is needed to gain the required qualifications
+ Requires familiarity with large-scale nuclear generating station layouts, station systems and equipment,



and plant operating processes
+ Requires certifications to Canadian General Standards Board 48.9712 requirements in at least four of the following NDE methods: Radiography, Ultrasonic, Magnetic Particle, Liquid Penetrant.

Certification to CGSB Level II is required (an appropriate certification to CSA W178.2 (CWB) Level II may be considered equivalent to one CGSB Level II certificate).

Similarly, The ISO 9712 certification for Phased Array Ultrasonic (PCN and CSWIP) may be considered equivalent to one CGSB level II certification)
+ Requires experience with replication, video, optical, photographic, and other visual inspection techniques as may be applied in weld and component inspection practices
+ Requires familiarity with the ASME codes, ASNT and CSA standards pertaining to the fabrication and repair of pressure boundary components
