Our large blue-chip mining client is seeking a Junior Cost Control Specialist to support a major capital project within its Projects Group.
This opportunity would suit an early-career project controls professional who is interested in gaining further experience on large-scale mining and resource development projects, with exposure to engineering, construction, cost management, scheduling, procurement, and overall project delivery.
Working as part of the Project Controls team, the Junior Cost Control Specialist will assist with the implementation and maintenance of project cost control processes and systems. The position will provide broad exposure to the different stages and disciplines involved in delivering a major capital project.
The successful candidate will be working from the client's Vancouver, BC office 3 days per week and 2 days per week from home.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote a robust safety culture by following all applicable health, safety, and environmental policies, procedures, and training requirements.
- Monitor, track, and record project expenditures to help ensure costs remain aligned with approved budgets and forecasts.
- Enter and maintain contractor cost information within the client's Oracle Unifier project controls system to support reporting and cost management activities.
- Assist with tracking project progress, milestones, quantities, and timelines across both construction and project study environments.
- Review project information to develop an understanding of the relationship between schedule performance, project progress, and cost.
- Identify potential cost and schedule variances and support the associated project change management process.
- Work closely with Contracts and Procurement teams to understand project commitments, contracting requirements, purchasing activities, and procurement strategies.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Construction teams to gain an understanding of project design, technical requirements, construction activities, and overall project execution.
- Work alongside Social, Environmental, and Regulatory teams to understand the environmental, regulatory, and community considerations associated with major mining projects.
- Assist with the preparation of project controls reports, presentations, and supporting documentation.
- Provide additional project controls and administrative support as required throughout the various phases of project delivery.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience within an owner's project team, EPC, EPCM, engineering, construction, or similar project-based environment, with exposure to project controls and/or project administration.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate project information.
- Detail-oriented, dependable, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
- A proactive and enthusiastic learner with an interest in developing a broader understanding of major capital project delivery.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Outlook.
- Experience preparing reports, presentations, spreadsheets, and project documentation.
- Exposure to Power BI would be considered an asset.
- Previous experience with Oracle Unifier or a similar project controls/cost management platform would be considered an asset.
