Kinwood is a technology-enabled celebration-of-life company. We already have a live TypeScript platform consisting of a Next.js Shopify storefront and an AWS serverless backend that power digital memorials, interviews, commemorative films, events/RSVPs, and our Celebration of Life Store.

What you’ll do

- Own day-to-day development across Kinwood’s Next.js storefront and AWS Lambda backend, working alongside our existing Lead Software Engineer.
- Extend our headless Shopify store and Celebration of Life Store as we grow a major media partnership.
- Integrate Kinwood’s systems with Shopify, Dropbox, email/SMS, and other third-party platforms.
- Help manage AWS, Vercel, Shopify, Google Workspace, domains, access, backups, and vendor relationships.
- Write clean, tested, maintainable code and keep our systems, architecture, and processes well documented.
- Work with Kinwood leadership and external partners to translate business needs into technical work and explain technical issues in plain language.
- Identify practical opportunities to use AI and automation to reduce manual work and improve how we build and operate.

Qualifications & Requirements

What you’ll bring:

- Skilled software development experience, ideally with full-stack TypeScript.
- Practical experience with React / Next.js (or similar) and Node.js APIs.
- Familiarity with AWS, including Lambda, S3, RDS, or comparable cloud services.
- Practical experience with SQL databases, preferably PostgreSQL.
- Ability to write well-tested, high-quality,



maintainable code.
- Comfort working with APIs, integrations, and third-party platforms.
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical people.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and figure things out in a small-company environment.
- Willingness to operate outside a narrow coding role, including Shopify administration, cloud operations, and vendor coordination.

Bonus points for:

- Shopify experience, particularly Storefront API / headless commerce.
- AWS Lambda / serverless, Cognito, S3, or Terraform experience.
- Experience with file uploads, media pipelines, or large-file handling.
- Payments, checkout, or e-commerce integrations.
- Email/SMS, authentication (JWT, OAuth, Google Sign-In), or SaaS platform management.
- Practical use of AI tools to ship work faster.
- Startup or entrepreneurial experience.

The Role

Position: Senior Software Engineer
Employment: Part-time
Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week
Location: Flexible / Hybrid
Reports to: Kinwood leadership
Works closely with: Kinwood’s existing management team, and external technology partners

Current technology stack: Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind, Shopify Storefront API, AWS Lambda, PostgreSQL, Cognito, S3, SQS, SES/SNS, Serverless Framework, Terraform, and Vercel.

Compensation: Part time and prorated based on experience and an agreed full-time equivalent.

Pay: $3,000.00-$6,000.00 per month
