For over 30 years, Angus Glen Golf Club has been recognized as one of Canada’s premier golf destinations. Located in Markham, Ontario, Angus Glen offers two championship golf courses, exceptional hospitality, award-winning event spaces, and a strong commitment to excellence.

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Controller to lead the Club’s accounting and financial operations. This is a hands-on leadership role for a finance professional who enjoys working in a dynamic, hospitality-driven environment and can provide strong financial insight to senior leadership.

Position Summary

The Controller is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of Angus Glen Golf Club, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, strong internal controls, regulatory compliance, and effective financial planning.

Working closely with the General Manager, CFO, and Department Heads, the Controller will provide financial analysis and guidance to support operational and strategic decision-making.

The successful candidate will be a strong leader with excellent analytical and organizational skills, a high level of integrity, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced seasonal business.

Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations

- Lead and oversee the day-to-day accounting functions of the Club, ensuring compliance with Canadian GAAP, company policies, and applicable legislation.
- Ensure the accurate and timely processing, recording, reconciliation, and reporting of all financial transactions.
- Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, inventory, payroll accounting, general ledger, and month-end closing processes.
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements, including analysis against budget, forecast, and prior-year results.
- Identify and investigate significant financial variances and provide recommendations to management.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit card deposits, and other cash accounts on a regular basis.
- Review and reconcile inventory sub-ledgers and ensure accurate inventory reporting.
- Review and post bi-weekly payroll and ensure payroll-related accounting entries are accurate.
- Monitor accounts receivable collections and accounts payable to ensure timely processing and payment.
- Ensure the timely remittance of HST, WSIB, and other government-related obligations.
- Prepare year-end audit working papers and coordinate the annual audit process.




- Manage government and regulatory audits by providing accurate and timely information and responding to inquiries.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Analysis

- Lead the annual budgeting process, including timelines, templates, departmental submissions, analysis, consolidation, and final budget preparation.
- Work with Department Heads to develop realistic budgets and monitor performance throughout the year.
- Prepare financial forecasts and long-term financial plans, including 5–10 year operating and capital plans.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to the President, General Manager, CFO, and Department Heads.
- Support management with analysis of revenue, margins, labour costs, departmental expenses, capital expenditures, and overall financial performance.
- Participate in monthly financial review meetings and provide meaningful insight into financial trends and variances.
- Develop financial reporting and analysis to support operational and strategic decision-making.

Golf Club & Hospitality Operations

- Work closely with operational departments including Golf Operations, Food & Beverage, Events, Retail, Membership, and Administration.
- Review event contracts to ensure financial terms, deposits, billing requirements, and other financial conditions are accurate and complete.
- Ensure appropriate deposits and receivables are collected in accordance with contractual terms.
- Maintain strong financial controls across POS, member accounts, cash handling, inventory, and event operations.
- Oversee relevant financial and administrative system setups within Jonas, including users, member status, cash cards, inventory, POS, and related functions.
- Ensure confidential financial records are maintained accurately and securely.

Leadership & Team Management

- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop the accounting team.
- Oversee the performance and development of direct and indirect reports.
- Establish clear departmental objectives, priorities, and performance expectations.
- Provide regular feedback, coaching, and support to team members.
- Participate in recruitment, onboarding,



performance management, and termination processes as required.
- Foster a collaborative, professional, and service-oriented accounting environment.
- Ensure accounting processes are well documented, efficient, and consistently followed.

Compliance & Internal Controls

- Maintain effective financial controls and accounting procedures to safeguard company assets.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax requirements, government regulations, and company policies.
- Maintain accurate and confidential financial records.
- Identify financial risks and recommend improvements to processes and controls.
- Work closely with external auditors, banking representatives, government agencies, insurance providers, and other external stakeholders.

Other Responsibilities

- Prepare and submit required annual and periodic reports, including Statistics Canada, MPAC, insurance, and other regulatory reporting.
- Provide financial support and analysis for special projects and business initiatives.
- Perform other finance and accounting duties as assigned

Qualifications Education

- University degree or college diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.

Professional Designation

- CPA designation required.

Experience

- Minimum 5–7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- Minimum 3 years of management or leadership experience.
- Experience overseeing full-cycle accounting and financial reporting.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and year-end audit processes.
- Experience in the golf, hospitality, private club, event, or seasonal business environment is considered an asset.
- Experience with Jonas or a similar accounting/club management system is considered an asset.

Pay: $95,000.00-$105,000.00 per year
