Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is seeking a Discipline Lead with a passion for leadership, business development, and a client focus to join our Ports and Marine Practice in Canada

This role can be based in any one of our offices.

This role requires a candidate who can combine technical delivery, business building, and operational leadership. They will be responsible for leading the pursuit of ports and marine structural projects to grow the business in a specified region, and will report to the Director, Ports & Marine, Canada.

Key Responsibilities

- Grow, lead, and manage a team of Ports & Marine engineers.
- Participate in marketing efforts, prepare technical proposals and reports with the aim of securing project work.
- Coordinate delivery of engineering services and project management according to client-approved scopes of work.
- Lead structural design of marine infrastructure including docks, jetties, trestles, berthing and mooring dolphins. Ensure that all structural engineering deliverables comply with applicable local and international codes and standards.
- Lead and manage multi-disciplinary project teams, working with other professionals, to deliver high quality projects on time and within budget.
- Ensure all project documentation and deliverables are reviewed in accordance with corporate quality management procedures.
- Assist in the mentoring and development of junior and intermediate engineers.
- Oversee technical quality and delivery for projects, including design, review, and project management, as well as supporting the business operation.
- Demonstrate leadership of a safety culture, supporting safe work practices and procedures.
- Undertake business development, establish and maintain client relationships.
- Conduct client meetings, site visits, and field inspections as and if needed.
- Provide construction services support, including documented field reviews,



review of shop drawings, site visits, condition assessments, inspections, and responses to queries.
- Work closely with geotechnical engineers and review geotechnical subsurface investigation reports and use information to prepare structural design recommendations.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree in civil or structural engineering. Master's Degree preferred.
- 15 or more years of experience in civil, structural engineering in a marine environment
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in province of residence.
- PMP designation an asset.
- A solid ability and desire to maintain a combined technical and project management leadership role
- Proficiency in use of structural analysis and design software
- Desire to provide excellent, practical, client service and a passion for technical excellence
- Superior verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated experience in writing proposals, technical reports, and general project correspondence
- Superior time management, planning, and ability to interact with clients
- A strong commitment to safety and sustainability initiative
