Under general supervision, the porter's responsibilities include: transporting patients to and from various wards and departments; assisting with patient lifts and transfers; assisting patients in and out of wheelchairs; delivery of food wagons and late trays to clinical units; delivery of specimens, equipment, documents and supplies; movement of heavy equipment and supplies; operation of power equipment; responding to all Codes and assisting as required; and other duties as assigned. - Grade 12 (preferred)
- Oral and written English ability
- Ability to identify and respond to priorities
- Ability to understand and follow directions
- Ability to adjust to handling of highs and lows in providing services
- Valuable interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to operate tow motor, where applicable
- Ability to operate delivery equipment
- Ability to push, pull and lift heavy equipment and stand constantly
- Ability to lift 25 pounds (linen)
- Ability to move patients
