Description The Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Technician. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This Research Technician position will primarily support a research program focused on hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) engineering and transplantation to develop potential treatments for inborn errors of immunity.

Working under the scientific direction of the Principal Investigatorl, the Research Technician is responsible for performing specialized laboratory procedures, supporting assigned research projects, maintaining laboratory inventories, analyzing and reporting data, and contributing to day-to-day laboratory operations. The incumbent is expected to work independently on assigned projects while collaborating closely with faculty, staff, trainees, and research partners.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

- Independently perform laboratory experiments primarily supporting HSC engineering and transplantation research for inborn errors of immunity, with additional support for related cancer immunotherapy projects as needed, including mammalian cell culture, gene editing, flow cytometry, lentiviral vector production, molecular cloning, and other molecular biology techniques
- Conduct animal-based research activities in accordance with approved protocols, institutional policies, and ethical standards
- Maintain accurate, detailed experimental records and an up-to-date laboratory resource inventory; analyze and interpret data; and present results to the research team
- Troubleshoot technical challenges, optimize experimental protocols, and contribute to the development and implementation of new laboratory procedures
- Coordinate and prioritize experimental activities to support project objectives and research timelines
- Assist in the preparation of research reports, presentations, grant materials, manuscripts, and other scientific communications
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures, biosafety regulations, animal care protocols, and institutional policies while maintaining a clean and organized laboratory environment
- Collaborate effectively with lab staff and research collaborators, providing technical guidance and training to students and new staff as required

Qualifications / Requirements

- A Master of Science (MSc) or higher degree in a related field (e.g., immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, cell biology, or biochemistry) is required
- A minimum of three years of relevant research laboratory experience working in an academic, biotechnology, or translational research environment is required




- A demonstrated commitment to translational science and hands-on laboratory research is essential
- Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture, molecular cloning, PCR, and flow cytometry is required
- Experience in lentiviral vector production is a strong asset
- Hands-on experience conducting research with mouse models is required. The incumbent must be willing and able to regularly perform mouse handling, monitoring, routine injections, and tissue or organ collection under approved protocols
- Experience with hematopoietic stem cell and/or chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) transplantation, humanized mouse models, and murine tumour models is considered a strong asset
- Experience working with mammalian stem cells including induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) is an asset
- Experience with gene-editing tools such as base and prime editing is a solid asset
- Experience working safely with Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) materials and procedures is required
- Demonstrated ability to perform laboratory procedures accurately and consistently while maintaining a high level of attention to detail
- Proven ability to troubleshoot technical challenges, optimize experimental protocols, and exercise sound scientific judgment
- Experience collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting scientific data is required
- Ability to maintain accurate and detailed electronic experimental records and consistently follow established standard operating procedures (SOPs) is required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with faculty, staff, trainees, and research partners
