Role Description The Safety Coordinator is a contract, on-site role based in Fort McMurray, AB, at CNRal Horizon, supporting safe execution in the tournaround activities. In this role, the Safety Coordinator monitors work sites, conducts safety inspections and audits, and ensures compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and client standards. Daily responsibilities include facilitating safety meetings, delivering toolbox talks and training, and helping crews identify and control hazards before and during work.
The Safety
Coordinator will lead or support incident and near-miss investigations, maintain accurate safety documentation, and track corrective actions to closure.
This position also collaborates with supervisors and workers to promote a strong safety culture, reinforce best practices, and continuously improve health, safety, and environmental performance.
Qualifications
- Strong Health & Safety knowledge, including hazard identification, risk assessment, and controls.
- Experience in Setting Health and Safety (EHS) programs and occupational health practices.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver Safety Training and facilitate safety meetings or toolbox talks.
- Proficiency in Accident Investigation, incident reporting, and root cause analysis.
- Relevant safety certifications (e.g., NCSO) and familiarity with applicable regulations.
- Experience in industrial, energy, or construction environments, preferably in turnaround or maintenance projects.
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence safe behaviors at all levels.
- Ability to work on-site in Fort McMurray, AB, including in varying weather conditions and operational settings.
- Strong organizational skills for documentation, data entry, and follow-up on corrective actions.
- Completion of post-secondary education or recognized training in occupational health and safety or a related field is an asset.
