Job details A Loving Spoonful is seeking an experienced Sous Chef to join our wonderful, fast-paced, and compassionate team. This is a full time position reporting to the Executive Chef. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to support special events and corporate catering. The position includes a generous benefits package after six months of employment.

A Loving Spoonful is a dynamic not-for-profit organization. We are a volunteer-driven charitable society delivering free meals and nutritional support to individuals and families living with HIV and other co-existing illnesses, while also supporting vulnerable populations through subsidized meal programs.We are seeking a passionate and experienced Sous Chef who will join our dedicated and high-energy team. The successful candidate will play a key role in producing nutritious, high-quality meals, supporting our growing corporate catering activities, and helping to support kitchen staff and volunteers in a collaborative and mission-driven environment.

Qualifications and the Candidate

This is a hands-on role in a fast-moving kitchen environment. We are seeking a self-motivated individual with previous culinary experience who is organized, adaptable, and excited to contribute to an important community organization. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in both high-volume meal production and catering environments and will take pride in food quality, consistency, and presentation.

Meal Production

Assist in the preparation and production of daily meals, soups, frozen meals, baked items, and special menu items

Follow established recipes, production schedules, and portion standards

Ensure meals are prepared consistently and meet quality standards

Assist with menu preparation and recipe implementation as directed by the Executive Chef

Monitor food quality, freshness, and presentation

Assist in reducing food waste through proper production planning and inventory rotation





Support high-volume food production while maintaining consistency and quality

Corporate Catering

Assist with the preparation and execution of corporate catering orders, special events, and community functions

Work with the Executive Chef to ensure catering menus are prepared according to event requirements and timelines

Maintain a high standard of food quality, presentation, portioning, and consistency for catered events

Assist with the organization, packaging, and preparation of catering orders for delivery or on-site service

Help coordinate food production to ensure catering orders are completed accurately and on time

Assist with on-site catering and special events when required

Support the continued growth and development of A Loving Spoonful's corporate catering program

Ensure catering activities reflect the professional standards and mission of A Loving Spoonful

Kitchen Operations

Support the Executive Chef in daily kitchen operations

Assist in coordinating daily food preparation activities

Ensure kitchen workstations remain clean, organized, and efficient

Assist with receiving and storing food deliveries

Support meal packaging and preparation for distribution programs

Help ensure production and catering deadlines are met

Assist with maintaining appropriate inventory levels and identifying product requirements for upcoming production and catering needs

Volunteer and Staff Support

Provide guidance and support to kitchen volunteers during meal preparation and packaging activities

Assist with training volunteers on food handling, kitchen procedures, and safe work practices

Foster a positive, welcoming, and respectful environment for volunteers and team members

Support teamwork and communication within the kitchen

Provide direction and assistance to volunteers supporting catering preparation and special events

Food Safety

Maintain FoodSafe standards and safe food handling procedures

Salary $ 65,000 YEAR annually
