- Gather all relevant documents including property plans, engineering drawings and project specifications.
- Research documents, meet with customers and inspect the site to fully understand the work required.
- Decide the most suitable human and material resources for each project.
- Get several quotes for each of them then choose the most suitable offer.
- Negotiate with service provider for better price.
- Describe the work plan to assess the time required to complete each development.
- Perform a risk assessment to account for potential deviations from the project plan.
- Calculate the use of our resources, plus a reasonable profit margin to calculate the overall price.
- Write a proposal detailing materials, costs, and expected deadlines.
- Meet with clients to discuss their thoughts and concerns about our services.
- Prepare and estimate construction budget costs by studying plans and specifications.
- Evaluate purchase offers based on site requirements, cost additions and changes.
- Resolve cost disparities by analyzing and gathering information.
- Write and present budgets, reports and project plans.
- Prepare tender documents for construction projects.
- Work closely with architects and other professionals.
- Schedule meetings with clients, manage locations and employees.
- Navigate and understand building codes.
- Process documents and travel to site when needed.
- Monitor the construction process.
- Stick to safety rules and improve construction.
Requirements
- Completed studies in mechanical engineering, architecture or equivalent.
- A project management qualification is a big advantage.
- Experience as a building surveyor.
- Ability to predict the costs of associated expensive building developments.
- Knowledge of relevant technical and non-technical documentation.
- Outstanding quantitative skills.
- Positive research and proposal writing skills.
- Ability to negotiate with experienced sales representatives.
- Reliable, conscientious and clear.
- Strong math skills such as algebra, geometry and basic arithmetic.
- Ability to navigate specifications and plans.
- Ability to demonstrate proposals and projects.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Knowledge of the latest building regulations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Terms of Employment
- 40 hours per week
Salary: $45.52 - $62.60 per hour
Required Years of Experience: 1 year to 2 years experience in construction estimator or in related field.
