Summary The Accounting Specialist is a hands-on accounting position responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations and monthly closing of our Lower Mainland and Rolltec business units.
The position is designed for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys hands-on transactional accounting and takes pride in maintaining accurate books, completing reconciliations, resolving discrepancies and ensuring that month-end is completed accurately and on time. The incumbent will also provide support to the corporate finance team.
The successful candidate will be comfortable with a substantial amount of recurring transactional and accounting work while having sufficient accounting knowledge to independently identify and resolve routine accounting issues. Our Values

Day-to-Day Accounting/bookkeeping Manage day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting transactions. Process customer invoices and cash receipts.
Process accounts payable invoices and related documentation.
Process credit card transactions and reconcile credit card statements.
Maintain petty cash records where applicable. Record sales journals and other recurring accounting transactions.
Enter payroll-related accounting transactions.
Maintain accurate general ledger accounts.
Perform bank reconciliations.
Reconcile accounts receivable and accounts payable to the general ledger.
Monitor and reconcile undeposited funds.
Process currency conversions and related accounting entries.
Prepare and post routine journal entries.
Investigate and resolve routine accounting discrepancies. Month-End Close Complete month-end accounting procedures. Prepare account reconciliations and supporting schedules.
Prepare preliminary trial balances and general ledger reports.
Prepare balance sheets, income statements and other recurring financial reports.
Complete month-end procedures in QuickBooks.
Review transactions for completeness and accuracy before closing each period.
Identify unusual transactions, variances or issues and escalate items requiring management attention.
Prepare routine month-end journal entries.
Maintain a consistent month-end close checklist and supporting documentation. Tax & Compliance Prepare GST/HST and PST reconciliations, returns and supporting schedules.
Process tax payments.
Maintain documentation supporting tax filings.
Complete recurring statutory and government reporting assigned to the position.
Financial Reporting
Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules for review.
Prepare budget-versus-actual and prior-year reporting.
Investigate routine financial variances and identify items requiring management attention.
Maintain recurring financial reporting schedules.
Corporate Finance
Support (20%)
Maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedules.
Assist with selected Corporate account reconciliations.
Assist with GST/PST reconciliation and filing requirements.
Process Visa statements and related expense schedules.
Prepare routine cash-flow entries.
Prepare recurring statistical and government reporting.
Prepare selected routine journal entries.
Prepare routine EFT and wire documentation for review and approval.
Provide other recurring accounting support to Corporate Finance as required.
Position Requirements
Robust knowledge of full-cycle accounting and month-end procedures.
Demonstrated experience with bank reconciliations, AP, AR, journal entries and general ledger accounting.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Ability to investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies independently.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage recurring deadlines.
Comfortable performing a significant amount of hands-on transactional accounting.
Ability to work independently while knowing when to escalate issues.
Strong Excel skills.
Experience with QuickBooks; ERP experience is an asset.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to maintain confidential financial information.
Academic
Qualifications and Work Experience Accounting diploma or degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CPA student status or other accounting designation is an asset but not required.
Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible accounting or bookkeeping experience.
Experience with full-cycle accounting in a multi-entity, manufacturing or distribution environment is preferred.
