Responsibilities

Within the Research and Technology team, the student will work as a developer on a rapid-paced team to help develop Multi-Disciplinary Optimization (MDO) software tools to support early-stage landing gear design. This role will involve the full-stack development of these tools, including front-end web development & deployment, as well as the back-end mathematics and optimization methodologies. There will also be opportunities to work on new AI-based projects.

You are likely to succeed in this role if:

- You are pursuing a degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, with a strong interest in software development
- You enjoy experimenting with new technologies and are comfortable learning quickly in all aspects of software development
- You are detail-oriented and can balance building user-friendly interfaces with writing clean, maintainable code
- You’re curious about how software moves from development to deployment, and are excited to gain hands-on experience with large-scale code bases
- You like to approach problems analytically and creatively, whether debugging code or exploring ways to integrate new features into existing products
- You collaborate openly, ask questions when needed, and thrive in a team that values continuous learning and iteration
- You have held a research position at your university
- Possess a keen eye for product design and innovation

About us:
- We are developing and maintaining large-scale codebases, using modern coding standards and best practices, in Python and JavaScript
- We work with design engineers and see the tools we develop used for real aircraft development programs
- Our work leverages foundational engineering skills
- At the core, we are a research team – previous interns have had the opportunity to be involved and credited on publications and patents

Candidate Skills & Requirements

- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering (Aeronautical/Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical,



Engineering Physics or Engineering Science), or a related field
- Familiarity with programming in Python and JavaScript (other languages acceptable); bonus points if you have experience with OpenMDAO
- Any front-end web development experience (e.g. Vue.js, Dash) an asset
- Strong mathematical background an asset (optimization, numerical solvers, partial derivatives, matrix operations & differentiation)
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis or Topology Optimization an asset
- Comfortable using Git or another version control system
- Experience with CI/CD workflows (GitLab, GitHub Actions, or similar) is an asset
- Strong problem-solving skills, eagerness to learn, and ability to work both independently and in a team

Nice-to-Have

- A portfolio, GitHub profile, or examples of past coding projects
- Previous experience in student teams, hackathons, or collaborative projects

- Candidates should be in strong and competitive academic standing
