Double Star Drilling has an immediate opening for a full-time Anchor/Micropile Driller for our Shoring and Piling division. Previous experience as a Driller is critical to this role. The drilling operator is responsible for operating tracked micropile equipment to drill open hole and cased holes for use as foundation support to various structures, including horizontal temporary anchors.
The Operator plans daily installations, reviews construction documentation, evaluates site conditions, anticipates and solves potential installation issues, and assures standards of safety and quality are consistently met or exceeded while maintaining the timeline of the project schedule. The anchor/micropile driller is responsible for the safe operation of their assigned piece of equipment and proper maintenance of that equipment.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Encourage positive attitudes towards OHS and Alberta Legislation
- Ensure that workers use the required protective equipment and ensuring safety of crew
- Advise workers of potential and actual hazards
- Actively participate in inspections and audits
- Perform employee competency reviews as required by Double Star and the Client
- Ensure that all hazards and incidents are reported, investigated, and suitable controls are implemented with follow up
- Participate in toolbox meetings and actively engage with workers
- Ensure that all paperwork (FLHA’s, Equipment Inspections etc.) are completed, reviewed, and deficiencies are reported immediately
- Keep a daily journal of all activities and conversations between workers and management
- Ensure that all daily, weekly, and monthly paperwork is completed and handed in on time
- Operate assigned drilling machinery and communicate work scope plan
- Complete all required daily safety site paperwork
- Perform pre-operational inspections, safety checks, load chart calculations, and daily logs
- Communicate with assigned crews
- Must be comfortable with survey equipment
- Ability to read grade stakes and elevations
- Knowledge of anchor bar building and understand compliance requirements
- Reading and following plans, drawings and engineered designs
- May perform other related duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate fluently in English is an asset
- Minimum 1 year of Drilling/Piling experience in the applications and systems related to dual rotary and single rotary drilling, tieback and micropile installation
- Previous experience with rotary, percussive drilling, solid stem augers, hollow stem augers, injection bars
- Must provide own transportation to job site
- Required to perform a drug and alcohol test for pre-project access or post-incident
- Must be on time and fit for duty for all shifts
- Mechanically inclined
- Able to perform physically demanding tasks outside in all types of weather and terrain
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to walk on uneven terrain, sitting/driving for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Reading and following work scope plans, drawings and engineered designs
- Must have excellent organizational, administrative, communication and interpersonal skills
- Valid PME certification
- Valid CSTS 2020 from ACSA
- Valid WHMIS Certification
- Valid Ground Disturbance 2 Certification
- Valid Class 5 license with clean driver abstract
- Will be required to perform a drug and alcohol test for pre project access or post incident review
Equipment Experience:
- Drilling Rigs: SM5, Soilmec,
Comacchio, Davey Kent, Casagrande and other various equipment as required by project scope
Working Conditions:
- Overtime as required
- Must be able to travel out of town and accommodate last minute scheduling

Hours and Schedule:
Double Star Drilling’s tentative operation hours are from 7:00AM to 5:00PM Monday through Friday. Depending on production, schedule and timelines overtime and weekends may be required.
