THE WORK
We are a controls company. We wire, program and service the systems that run buildings and plants. That covers heating, cooling, refrigeration and lighting in large stores, machine and process controls in industrial plants, and water and wastewater treatment sites across the prairies.
You will learn a trade inside a trade. Controls work is electrical work, but it also covers small networks, sensors, software and a lot of problem solving. Most electricians never get this training. You will get it from day one.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Work alongside a journeyman on installs, service calls and startups
- Pull, run and terminate power and low voltage cable
- Mount panels, sensors, thermostats and other field devices
- Help wire motor starters, drives, pumps and instruments
- Help label wire, mark up drawings and keep the paperwork straight
- Help test points and check that equipment does what the drawings say
- Load and unload the truck, keep tools and stock in order, keep the site clean
- Ask questions, take notes, and pick up the trade a bit faster than the guy beside you
WHAT YOU NEED
- Valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
- Able to pass a criminal record check plus drug and alcohol testing, since many of our customers require it
- Willing to work night and weekend shifts when a site cannot be shut down during store hours
- Willing to travel across southern Alberta and southern Saskatchewan, with overnight stays on some jobs
- Able to lift, climb ladders and stay on your feet through a shift
- Basic hand tools and safety boots, or a plan to get them
- Show up on time, every time, and treat the customer's building with respect
HELPS YOUR CASE
- Any year of a registered electrical apprenticeship, or a pre employment electrical program
- Time on commercial or industrial sites, even as a helper or labourer
- Any look at PLCs, motor controls, instruments or water treatment gear
- Comfort with a laptop, phone apps and basic network settings
- Interest in HVAC, refrigeration, plant equipment or building systems
- Current tickets for fall protection, aerial lift, first aid, CSTS or OSSA
First year and second year apprentices are welcome to apply. If you are not registered yet but have the right attitude and a clean record, tell us and we will talk.
SHIFT WORK AND TRAVEL
This job is based in the Calgary area. Most weeks you will start and finish close to home. Possibility of night and weekend work, usually in blocks rather than every week. We give you the schedule as early as we can. Travel time is paid, and we cover the hotel and meals when you are out of town.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Wage based on your apprenticeship year and what you bring, discussed openly at the interview
- Hours on the tools with a journeyman who is paid to teach you, not just use you
- A mix of sites, from big box stores to plants and water treatment facilities
- Support through school, including help with the paperwork and the timing
- Training on control systems and software that very few apprentices get to touch
- Steady work backed by a long term service and install program
