Opportunity

MacEwan University is seeking an Aquatics Programmer for a full-time continuing opportunity with our Sport and Wellness department. Reporting to the Supervisor, Aquatics, you will be responsible for developing, coordinating, promoting, implementing and evaluating aquatic programs and initiatives that foster a sense of community, promote physical well-being and support the diverse needs of our students, faculty and staff. You will also deliver a range of engaging activities and events that enhance the overall campus experience.

Key responsibilities include

- Developing,



planning and coordinating a variety of aquatic programs that engage students, faculty, staff, and external community members;
- Ensuring that programs meet or exceed the standards of the Lifesaving society and regulatory safety standards while aligning with broader Sport and Wellness departmental strategies and goals;
- Developing and maintaining a comprehensive calendar and coordinating the scheduling for aquatic programming to ensure efficient allocation of pool time between institutional programs, recreational use, external bookings, seasonal programs and special campus events;
- Preparing detailed lesson plans, activity outlines, and contingency plans to ensure smooth execution of programs;
- Monitoring and assessing program participation and outcomes, collecting feedback to inform program improvements and to ensure continuous enhancement;
- Adapting programming to suit the facility’s usage patterns, including peak hours and facility availability as well as aligning scheduling with the availability of trained staff;
- Engaging with academic departments and external stakeholders to promote Sport and Wellness programs and services;
- Maintaining inventory of aquatic supplies;
- Monitoring external bookings and collection of fees;
- Acting as the primary point of contact for external groups, providing excellent customer service and clear communication regarding availability, policies, and pricing;
- Conducting routine audits of programming and staffing to verify compliance with ratios and certification requirements;
- Providing program delivery supports for First Aid and Fit testing, incident reporting, hazard assessments, respiratory protection, and PPE programs; and
- Serving as a backup to the Head Lifeguard/Instructor when necessary, assisting staff with issues that arise during day-to-day operations of the pool.

Skills

You will have:

- Strong knowledge of aquatic programming and principles, practices and techniques employed in water safety and lifesaving activities;
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with keen attention to detail;
- Strong written,



verbal and interpersonal communications skills with the ability to work with a diverse range of clients and colleagues;
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to respond professionally under pressure;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; and
- The ability to remain flexible, take initiative and work both independently and in a team environment.

Qualifications

- A minimum of a diploma in Recreation, Sports Management or related field.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in aquatics programming and instruction or a similar role, preferably in a post-secondary or community setting.
- Certified in Lifesaving National Lifeguard (NL), Lifesaving Society Swim and Lifesaving Instructor, Intermediate First Aid with CPR-C and Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and Lifesaving Society Oxygen Administration, with the ability to renew annually or as required.
- Certification in First Aid Instructor, National Lifeguard Instructor, AARFP Pool Operator 1 and level 2 are all considered assets.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Position Requirements

- This position is on campus only.
- The ability to work flexible work hours, including shift work, rotating schedules, evenings and weekends.
- The successful incumbent will be required to obtain a Police Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check at their own cost.
