JOB DUTIES
- Assist the Chief Flight Instructor with the oversight of flight training operations, exercise operational control as delegated and develop and amend the Flight Training Unit’s standard operating procedures.
- Supervise and standardize flight instructors, including direct supervision of Class 4 Flight Instructors.
- Review training conducted by Class 4 Flight Instructors, conduct progress checks and approve applicable first-solo authorizations and flight-test recommendations.
- Provide ground and flight training to candidates pursuing an initial Class 4 Flight Instructor Rating.
- Assess and recommend qualified instructor candidates for Transport Canada flight tests and prepare evaluation reports.
- Monitor student and instructor performance, training records, regulatory compliance and instructional quality.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Completion of secondary school and graduation from a certified flight training or aviation program.
- Valid Transport Canada Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane or Airline Transport Pilot Licence – Aeroplane.
- Valid Transport Canada Class 1 Flight Instructor Rating – Aeroplane.
- Valid Category 1 Aviation Medical Certificate.
- Valid Restricted Operator Certificate with Aeronautical Qualification (ROC-A).
- Minimum three years of flight-instruction experience, including at least one year at a Canadian Flight Training Unit.
- Minimum one year of experience directly supervising Class 4 Flight Instructors at a Canadian Flight Training Unit.
- Must have trained and recommended at least 10 candidates within the previous 24 months for initial Transport Canada Flight Instructor Rating – Aeroplane flight tests.
- Must be eligible for appointment as an Assistant Chief Flight Instructor under Canadian Aviation Regulations Standard 426.22.1 and must not be undergoing follow-up action under section 421.67.
- Strong knowledge of the Canadian Aviation Regulations, Flight Instructor Guide and Flight Training Manual.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
ASSETS
- Transport Canada Airline Transport Pilot Licence – Aeroplane.
- Valid Group 1 Instrument Rating.
- Previous ACFI or comparable flight-training supervisory experience.
