The Autobody Painter / Refinisher is responsible for preparing, refinishing, and restoring vehicle surfaces to a high-quality finish in accordance with manufacturer specifications and Colorworks standards. This role requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of paint products and refinishing techniques, and a commitment to producing consistent, professional results.
The ideal candidate takes pride in their workmanship, works efficiently, maintains a clean and safe work environment, and works collaboratively with the production team to ensure vehicles are completed on time and to customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect damaged vehicles and determine the appropriate refinishing requirements.
- Prepare vehicle surfaces for refinishing, including sanding, feather edging, masking, priming, and sealing.
- Mix and apply automotive paints, primers, clear coats, and other refinishing products according to manufacturer specifications.
- Perform colour matching and blending to achieve an accurate and seamless finish.
- Operate spray booths, paint guns, sanding equipment, and other refinishing tools safely and effectively.
- Complete spot repairs, panel refinishing, blending, and full refinishing as required.
- Ensure finished surfaces are free of defects such as runs, sags, dirt, dry spray, orange peel, or colour mismatch.
- Inspect completed work and perform polishing, buffing, and finishing procedures when required.
- Follow repair procedures, technical specifications, and OEM requirements.
- Maintain proper paint mixing records and product usage where required.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas, tools, and equipment.
- Follow all workplace Health & Safety, WHMIS, PPE, environmental, and hazardous-material handling requirements.
- Properly store and dispose of paint, solvents, and other hazardous materials.
- Communicate effectively with the Production Manager, Technicians, Estimators, and other team members regarding repair requirements and any concerns.
- Identify additional damage or refinishing concerns and communicate them to the appropriate team member before proceeding.
- Complete work within established quality and production timelines.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous experience as an automotive painter, refinisher, or automotive body technician with refinishing experience.
- Strong knowledge of automotive paint systems, colour matching, blending, and refinishing techniques.
- Experience with automotive paint mixing systems and spray equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to identify and correct paint and finish defects.
- Ability to read and follow repair procedures and technical instructions.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to safely operate refinishing equipment and tools.
- Valid driver's license is an asset.
- Automotive trade certification or apprenticeship experience is an asset.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, reach, kneel, and work in various positions around vehicles.
- Ability to lift and move materials and equipment as required.
- Ability to wear required PPE, including respirators and protective clothing.
- Ability to work in a paint booth and other production environments.
Health & Safety The Autobody Painter / Refinisher is expected to maintain a strong commitment to workplace safety by:
- Wearing all required PPE.
- Following WHMIS and SDS requirements.
- Following proper respirator procedures and fit-testing requirements.
- Following paint booth and ventilation procedures.
- Handling and disposing of hazardous materials appropriately.
- Reporting unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment concerns immediately.
- Maintaining a clean and protected work area at all times.
Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
