The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is currently looking for volunteers for the position of Auxiliary Constable.
Minimum Requirements:
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Have successfully completed at least four years of secondary school education or its equivalent (proof of successful completion of secondary school is required. Please click here to use our flow chart to determine if you need to obtain an Educational Credential Assessment)
- Never have been convicted of a criminal offence for which a pardon has not been granted.
- Applicants should be prepared to undergo and successfully complete:
- Fitness testing
- A structured interview,
- Full comprehensive background investigation
- Vision field-testing, auditory standard testing,
- Psychological testing
- Medical testing
- Have a valid "G" driver’s licence with no more than 6 demerit points.
- Be qualified in Standard First Aid, CPR-C and AED (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillator) - not required at time of submission; however, training must be scheduled and valid certificate must be submitted to Uniform Recruitment prior to any conditional offer
- Be willing to commit to a minimum of three (3) events per month, including training.
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service’s selection standards are high. If you are not presently able to minimally meet all these standards, you may want to consider taking time to improve your level of readiness by working towards those areas in which you are deficient. Application Process
Please note that only electronic applications will be accepted. When submitting your application, please make sure that you have submitted all the required documents listed below:
- Application
- Authorization for Release of Information Form
- Birth certificate (if Canadian citizen) OR permanent residency (if permanent resident)
- Cover letter
- Resume
- Copy of education documents (i.e. high school diploma and transcripts or equivalent) which prove minimum education requirements (to confirm which documents you are required to obtain/upload with your application, please click here to use our flow chart.)
- If applicable: please also upload documents proving completion of any post-secondary studies (such as college or university diploma/degree and/or transcripts)
- If applicable: Copy of any additional qualifications, certificates, awards, commendations, licences, etc.
- Valid Class G driver’s licence
- Applicant Survey (Optional)

- Successfully complete 40 hours of required training (on weekends)
