Zūm Rails

Canada

Are you tired of the way in which payments are managed in Canada? If you answered yes, then we need you on our team! The legacy banking and payment system requires all kinds of manual intervention to collect and reconcile payment information, which is inefficient and costly. At Zūm, we are revolutionizing this process.

We have a group of super-smart colleagues who daily create an impact in the Fintech space, work autonomously, collaborate and expand their skill set all while working remotely. If this defines part of what you are hoping to accomplish professionally then read on as Zūm is the place for you.

Zūm Rails is looking for its first Business Development Representative, a unique opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a fast-growing fintech. You'll work directly with our Head of Sales to build the outbound foundation that will drive our expansion into the US payments space and the launch of card processing in Canada.

This role is ideal for a fast learner who is process-oriented and ambitious, an SDR looking to drive real growth at a fast-moving fintech and fast-track their career toward a Team Lead and/or Account Executive role. As our first BDR, you won't just execute a playbook, you'll help build and shape it.

Key Responsibilities

- Prospect into target accounts based on Zūm Rails' Ideal Customer Profile (ICP), researching target accounts, industries, and use cases to identify strong prospects.
- Develop and personalize outreach across multiple channels, including email, cold calls, LinkedIn, video, and other appropriate channels.
- Focus on generating opportunities in our new markets, including US payments, credit card processing in Canada, and prepaid and secured card solutions in Canada.
- Engage prospects to understand their business needs, payment infrastructure, pain points, and buying triggers, and qualify opportunities based on fit, urgency, and potential.
- Own consistent follow-up with prospects to nurture relationships and move qualified opportunities toward meetings and sales opportunities.

- Develop a strong understanding of Zūm Rails' products and payment solutions and stay informed on trends and developments across the payments and fintech landscape.
- Log prospect activity, insights, outcomes, qualification details, and next steps in HubSpot, maintaining accurate and up-to-date CRM data.
- Consistently achieve activity, meetings booked, and pipeline creation targets.
- Provide the Head of Sales with clear context on qualified opportunities, including the prospect's business needs, pain points, current solution, decision-making process, and next steps.
- Capture prospect feedback, market insights, and common pain points to help the Head of Sales and broader team refine sales strategy, messaging, and outbound processes.
- Partner with the Head of Sales to test, refine, document, and improve outbound processes that can scale with the team.
- Work closely with Sales, Marketing, Client Success, Product, and other internal teams to ensure qualified opportunities are properly transitioned and prospect feedback is shared internally.
- Other duties as required.

Skills & Abilities:
- 1–3 years of proven SDR/BDR or B2B sales experience, with a track record of generating meetings and pipeline.
- Proven cold-calling experience — you're comfortable picking up the phone and engaging prospective customers.
- Strong research skills and the ability to identify business pain points, buying triggers, and whether an opportunity is a good fit.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to uncover pain points through conversation and clearly communicate value.
- Strong written communication skills, particularly the ability to create concise, personalized outreach that earns a response.

- Highly organized with strong follow-through and the ability to manage multiple prospects and conversations while maintaining high-quality outreach at volume.
- Comfortable working with CRM systems and sales prospecting tools, with a strong focus on data accuracy and activity tracking.
- Resilient, competitive, and coachable, with a growth mindset and the ability to learn quickly.
- Payments, fintech, financial services, or technology experience is a plus, but not required.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where processes are being built, tested, and continuously improved.
