As an Ability Advisor for the Calgary Police Service (CPS), you will deliver specialized expertise and guidance in disability management, return-to-work planning, and medical accommodations. You will manage individual disability cases for employees while also supporting broader operational needs connected to disability-related matters. Primary duties include:

- Develop early intervention strategies and Return to Work (RTW) plans for disability cases (physical and psychological) to provide positive support to leaders and employees.
- Coordinate communication with employees and key partners to outline plan objectives, responsibilities, timelines, and expected outcomes.
- Manage caseloads of 80-150 cases. Maintain comprehensive case files including employee data, accommodation history, documentation, and detailed notes.



Review restrictions regularly to confirm validity and ensure ongoing suitability of accommodation.
- Maintain service delivery standards by completing regular check ins with employees throughout the duration of their case file - ensuring that they remain connected to the organization.
- Scheduling regular in-person meetings with operational area leaders, building relationships and ensuring timely status updates are provided to leadership.
- Monitor and evaluate plans and strategies, making changes as required, based on connections with employees, medical updates, operational business needs and legislative and/or contractual issues.
- Make consultation referrals for complex cases while maintaining service delivery standards to ensure consistency, continuity and optimize the overall employee experience.
- Collaborate with colleagues in Member Health & Safety, Wellness & Resiliency, Business Partnerships, Labour Relations, Governance, unions and others to determine strategies that best support positive outcomes for the employees.

Qualifications

- A 1-year certificate such as Disability Management Practitioner Certificate Program, National Institute of Disability Management and Research (NIDMAR), Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) or Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC) and a minimum of 3 years experience in in disability management in an organization of significant size,



complexity and diversity are preferred including some experience in a multi-union work workplace; OR
- A degree in Psychology, Kinesiology or Human Services or closely related health discipline and a minimum of 3 years experience in disability management in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity are preferred including some experience in a multi union work environment.
- A strong working knowledge of, and the ability to communicate effectively the applicable legislation, union agreements, disability management principles, concepts, theories and best practices.
- Previous case management experience is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of occupational demands in policing or law enforcement is an asset.

Pre-employment Requirements

- An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials

Position and Pay Information Business Unit: Calgary Police Services

Union: CUPE Local 38

Position Type: 1 Temporary (up to 18 months)

Compensation: Pay Grade 9 $41.49 - 55.51 per hour

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week.

Days of work: This position works a 5 day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.

Location: 5111 - 47 Street N.E.
