About North Bay Cardiology

North Bay Cardiology is seeking a Registered Cardiac Sonographer to join our growing outpatient cardiovascular practice and echocardiography laboratory.

Our goal is simple: to provide excellent cardiovascular care close to home for patients across Northern Ontario.

North Bay Cardiology has developed a comprehensive outpatient cardiac diagnostic and clinical program serving North Bay and the surrounding region. Due to continued growth in echocardiography referrals, we are expanding our echocardiography capacity and are looking for another sonographer to join our team.

This is an opportunity to practice echocardiography in an environment where your skills are highly valued, where you will work closely with a cardiologist and experienced clinical team, and where you will encounter a broad range of cardiovascular pathology.

Our multidisciplinary team includes registered cardiac sonographers, nursing staff, a Nurse Practitioner, cardiac rehabilitation professionals, administrative staff and a general cardiologist.

The Echocardiography Practice

Our outpatient echocardiography laboratory provides comprehensive adult transthoracic echocardiography.

Sonographers in our laboratory routinely encounter a broad spectrum of cardiovascular disease, including:

- Heart failure and cardiomyopathy
- Valvular heart disease
- Prosthetic heart valves and patients following TAVI and surgical valve replacement
- Ischemic heart disease
- Pulmonary hypertension and right ventricular disease
- Pericardial disease, including pericardial effusion and constrictive physiology
- Infiltrative cardiomyopathies, including cardiac amyloidosis
- Aortic disease
- Congenital and structural heart disease

Our laboratory routinely uses ultrasound enhancing agents/contrast echocardiography for LV opacification and improved assessment when clinically indicated, as well as agitated saline contrast ("bubble") studies. Our laboratory also incorporates advanced echocardiographic techniques, including left ventricular, right ventricular and left atrial strain imaging.

The successful candidate will work with modern Philips echocardiography equipment in a dedicated outpatient cardiovascular environment.

Position Responsibilities The Registered Cardiac Sonographer will:

- Perform comprehensive adult transthoracic echocardiograms using independent professional judgment.

- Obtain high-quality two-dimensional, Doppler, colour Doppler and tissue Doppler imaging and measurements.
- Perform advanced echocardiographic imaging and measurements where appropriate.
- Perform contrast-enhanced echocardiography in accordance with laboratory protocols.
- Participate in agitated saline contrast studies.
- Establish IV access where appropriately trained and delegated, or work with nursing staff for IV placement.
- Recognize significant and potentially urgent cardiovascular findings and communicate these appropriately to the cardiologist.
- Prepare accurate preliminary echocardiography worksheets/reports for physician interpretation.
- Review physician orders and relevant clinical information prior to examinations.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of examinations.
- Maintain appropriate infection prevention, patient safety, privacy and confidentiality standards.
- Assist with equipment quality assurance, supply management and maintenance of laboratory standards.
- Work collaboratively with the cardiologist, sonographers, nurses, Nurse Practitioner and other members of the cardiovascular team.

Qualifications

Required:

- Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography/Echocardiography program.
- Registration with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO), or eligibility for registration.
- Strong technical echocardiography skills and attention to image quality.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently while functioning effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to high-quality, patient-centred cardiovascular care.

Preferred/Assets:

- Registration with Sonography Canada.
- 1–3 years of experience as a cardiac sonographer; however, new graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Experience with ultrasound enhancing agents/contrast echocardiography.
- Experience with agitated saline contrast studies.
- Experience with strain imaging.
- Stress echocardiography experience.

Why Join North Bay Cardiology? This position offers the opportunity to work in a growing cardiovascular practice where echocardiography is a central component of patient care rather than one service within a large hospital department.

You will work closely with the interpreting cardiologist and have the opportunity to follow patients with a wide range of cardiovascular pathology. There is considerable chance for career development and expansion of advanced echocardiography skills.

We believe that excellent cardiovascular care requires excellent sonographers, and we want our team members to have a workplace where their professional judgment, technical skills and contributions to patient care are recognized and respected.

We also recognize the importance of work-life balance. This is a predictable outpatient position with no routine evenings, weekends, overnight shifts or on-call requirements.

North Bay offers short commutes, access to lakes and outdoor recreation, and an affordable community in which to live and work.

Compensation and Benefits

- $40–$45 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
- Full-time, permanent employment.
- Monday-to-Friday daytime schedule.
- No routine evenings or weekends.
- No overnight shifts or on-call requirements.
- Employer-supported health benefits plan, with North Bay Cardiology covering 60% of the premium and the employee contributing 40%.
- On-site parking provided.
- Support for continuing professional development.
- Financial support for attendance at relevant echocardiography conferences and educational activities.
- Relocation assistance available for candidates moving to North Bay.
- Flexible start date.

New Graduates We are willing to work with and mentor a motivated new graduate.

A new sonographer joining our laboratory will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced cardiovascular professionals while developing expertise in a broad range of routine and advanced outpatient echocardiography.
