About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Civil Foreman to join our team and lead underground civil construction projects throughout Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.

This is a hands-on leadership position for someone with strong experience in underground utilities, excavation, water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, drainage, and site servicing.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating field crews, equipment, materials, safety, productivity, and quality while ensuring work is completed according to drawings, specifications, grades, and project requirements.

We are looking for someone who understands civil construction from the ground up, can lead a crew effectively, and takes ownership of the work from start to finish.

What You’ll Be Doing

- Lead and supervise civil construction crews including pipelayers, equipment operators, and labourers.
- Plan and coordinate daily site activities, manpower, equipment, and materials.
- Review and interpret civil drawings, site plans, specifications, details, and survey information.
- Coordinate underground utility installations including:
- Water mains and services
- Sanitary sewer mains and services
- Storm sewer and drainage systems
- Catch basins and manholes
- Utility chambers
- Site servicing
- Ensure pipe installations meet required line, grade, elevation, and alignment.
- Use and verify grades with pipe lasers, construction lasers, levels, and survey stakes.
- Coordinate excavation, trenching, shoring, bedding, pipe installation, backfilling, and compaction.
- Organize and coordinate excavators, loaders, compactors, pumps, trucks, and other construction equipment.
- Identify potential conflicts involving existing utilities, grades, drawings, access, and site conditions.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, engineers, surveyors, inspectors, subcontractors, suppliers, and utility companies.
- Monitor crew productivity and ensure work is progressing efficiently.
- Ensure materials, equipment, and resources are available before work begins.
- Inspect completed work for quality, alignment, grade, and compliance with project requirements.
- Track daily manpower, equipment hours, quantities completed, deliveries, delays, and site conditions.
- Identify extra work, scope changes, or site conditions that may affect cost or schedule.
- Maintain an organized, productive, and qualified job site.

Safety Leadership Safety is a key part of this position.



The Civil Foreman is expected to lead by example and ensure crews follow company procedures and site requirements at all times.

Responsibilities include

- Conduct daily toolbox meetings and pre-job discussions.
- Participate in hazard assessments and identify changing site conditions.
- Ensure workers understand their assigned tasks and associated hazards.
- Enforce proper PPE requirements.
- Maintain safe excavation and trenching practices.
- Ensure appropriate shoring, sloping, benching, or trench protection is in place where required.
- Maintain safe access and egress to excavations.
- Coordinate work safely around underground and overhead utilities.
- Maintain safe separation between workers and operating equipment.
- Correct unsafe conditions or work practices immediately.
- Report incidents, near misses, property damage, and safety concerns.
- Participate in incident investigations when required.
- Ensure required equipment inspections and site safety documentation are completed.

What We’re Looking For

- Minimum 5 years of civil construction experience, preferably in underground utilities.
- Minimum 2–3 years of Foreman, Lead Hand, or similar supervisory experience.
- Strong experience with:
- Water systems
- Sanitary sewer
- Storm sewer and drainage
- Excavation and trenching
- Pipe installation
- Backfilling and compaction
- Proven ability to supervise and coordinate field crews.
- Ability to read and understand civil construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong understanding of elevations, grades, slopes, line, and pipe installation requirements.
- Experience using pipe lasers, construction lasers, and levels.
- Experience with common pipe materials including PVC, HDPE, concrete, and ductile iron.
- Strong knowledge of excavation, trenching, shoring, and underground utility work.
- Experience working around excavators and heavy construction equipment.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid BC driver's licence.
- Reliable transportation.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.





Assets The following experience or certifications are considered an asset:

- Municipal infrastructure construction experience in British Columbia.
- Experience working on projects in Vancouver or other Lower Mainland municipalities.
- Deep utility and shored excavation experience.
- Manhole, catch basin, and utility chamber installation experience.
- Water and sewer service connection experience.
- Roadwork, concrete, asphalt, and site restoration experience.
- Occupational First Aid.
- WHMIS.
- Confined Space.
- Fall Protection.
- Ground disturbance or utility locating training.
- Excavation and trench safety training.
- Traffic control experience.

Compensation We offer competitive compensation based on experience and ability.

Typical compensation for this position:

- Wage: $48.00 - $52.00/hour depending on experience
- Fuel allowance

Work Schedule & Environment This is a field-based position working primarily throughout Vancouver and the Lower Mainland, BC.

Work is performed outdoors on active construction sites and may involve excavations, trenches, underground utilities, heavy equipment, trucks, and construction materials.

The regular schedule is generally Monday to Friday, with start and finish times depending on the project.

Early starts, overtime, and occasional weekend work may be required depending on project schedules and site conditions.

The Right Person for This Role

We are looking for someone who can take a set of drawings, understand the scope of work, organize the crew and equipment, anticipate problems, and keep the project moving safely and efficiently.

You should be comfortable making field decisions, communicating with Project Managers and inspectors, maintaining accurate grades and installations, and holding your crew accountable for both safety and productivity.

The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, experienced, and takes pride in delivering quality civil construction work.
