Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced Clinical Business Analyst – Clinical Documentation (Therapeutics) to support a large-scale provincial Clinical Information Solution (CIS) transformation.
The successful candidate will support the standardization, design, build, and implementation of clinical documentation practices and workflows across the healthcare system. Working closely with clinicians, Subject Matter Experts, project teams, and other stakeholders, the Clinical Business Analyst will gather requirements, facilitate workshops, analyze current and future-state processes, develop clinical standards, and support the successful implementation and adoption of the CIS.
The primary focus of the role is the development and implementation of standardized order sets, clinical documentation templates, and workflows used by physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, and other regulated healthcare professionals providing bedside care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the standardization, design, build, validation, and implementation of Clinical Documentation practices and related workflows across the healthcare system.
- Act as a subject matter expert on the impact of Clinical Information Systems and the digitization of clinical processes on documentation, workflows, procedures, and clinical practice.
- Work closely with physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, other regulated healthcare professionals, Subject Matter Experts, and project stakeholders to gather and validate clinical, business, and system requirements.
- Facilitate stakeholder and clinical engagement sessions to document current-state processes and gather feedback on proposed future-state processes.
- Lead requirements-gathering workshops with healthcare providers to identify and articulate business requirements, system requirements, user stories, and use cases.
- Review and analyze existing business and clinical requirements and identify gaps and net-recent requirements.
- Conduct gap analysis and develop current-state and future-state workflows.
- Support the development and refinement of standardized clinical documentation, order sets, templates, and associated clinical workflows.
- Develop clinical deliverables supporting therapeutic services and acute-care clinical environments.
- Analyze the impact of proposed CIS functionality on existing clinical processes and recommend appropriate future-state solutions.
- Develop and maintain detailed business, clinical, process, and solution documentation, including workflows, use cases, user guides, and training materials.
- Build, validate, and test clinical content within the Clinical Information System.
- Support detailed design and build activities associated with clinical documentation functionality.
- Collaborate with project teams to support the development, operation, deployment, and implementation of clinical standardization initiatives.
- Support the seamless adoption of new Clinical Documentation standards across healthcare environments.
- Develop and support effective stakeholder communication plans associated with clinical standardization and CIS implementation.
- Work across multiple teams and project streams while managing concurrent activities and priorities.
- Monitor implemented solutions and support continuous improvement to ensure established clinical and project objectives are achieved.
Skills & Qualifications:
- University degree in Healthcare, Business Administration, Information Technology, or an equivalent combination of applicable education and experience.
- 5+ years of experience as a Clinical Analyst, Clinical Informatics Analyst, Clinical Business Analyst, or equivalent within the last 10 years.
- 5+ years of demonstrated experience with clinical documentation requirements gathering, workshop facilitation, use case analysis, business process analysis, detailed design activities, and development of business analysis documentation.
- 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst or Clinical Informatics Analyst supporting a large-scale acute-care digital health transformation or Clinical Information System implementation.
- Direct experience building or implementing a comparable large-scale Electronic Health Record (EHR) or Clinical Information System (CIS).
- Demonstrated experience developing clinical deliverables supporting therapeutics.
- Experience supporting clinical documentation within an acute-care healthcare environment.
- Strong knowledge of clinical workflows and the impact of digitization on clinical documentation and care delivery.
- Experience gathering and documenting business, clinical, functional, and system requirements.
- Experience conducting current-state/future-state analysis and gap analysis.
- Experience developing workflows, use cases, user stories, process documentation, user guides, and training materials.
- Experience supporting detailed design, build, implementation, validation, and testing activities within a CIS/EHR environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of Clinical Business Analyst experience supporting documentation-related requirements, design/build activities, implementation, and clinical documentation associated with therapeutic services.
- Experience with Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE).
- Experience developing or implementing clinical order sets.
- Strong clinical documentation experience.
- Experience supporting ancillary clinical services, particularly Pharmacy, Medical Imaging, and Laboratory environments.
- 3+ years of experience facilitating workshops with healthcare providers to develop business requirements, system requirements, user stories, and use cases.
- 5+ years of experience working with a high degree of self-direction and collaborating with project teams, clinical Subject Matter Experts, and stakeholders at all organizational levels.
- 5+ years of experience managing multiple teams, projects, or concurrent workstreams.
- 5+ years of experience using Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook, and Teams.
- 5+ years of experience using Atlassian JIRA within a project or professional work environment.
- Previous experience working within public health authorities and a strong understanding of public healthcare environments, policies, and practices.
- Previous experience within the New Brunswick healthcare system is considered an asset.
- Strong verbal and written communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
- Bilingual communication skills in English and French are strongly preferred.
