CNC Furniture Drafter
FIGN Custom Furniture is looking for a CNC Drafter to join our shop in Etobicoke. We produce custom furniture, upholstery frames, cabinetry components, millwork, and CNC-cut parts for outside clients.
This position combines computer-based drafting and CNC programming with hands-on machine operation. We’re looking for someone who understands how furniture is constructed—not simply how to draw parts—and can take a project from drawings or measurements through to accurately cut components.
Responsibilities
- Create accurate shop drawings and CNC-ready files for custom furniture, upholstery frames, cabinetry, and millwork
- Interpret sketches, architectural drawings, measurements, and client-supplied files
- Break projects down into practical, buildable components
- Prepare, nest, and program CNC toolpaths
- Operate and monitor a 5×10 CNC router with an automatic tool changer
- Select suitable tooling, feeds, speeds, cut depths, and machining strategies
- Set up materials, tooling, work origins, vacuum zones, and hold-down methods
- Produce labels, cut lists, and clear information for shop assembly
- Check drawings, dimensions, material thicknesses, and toolpaths before cutting
- Inspect finished parts for accuracy and quality
- Organize CNC files and maintain clear job records
- Perform routine CNC maintenance and keep the machine area organized
- Troubleshoot file, tooling, hold-down, and machining issues
- Help improve production workflows and reduce material waste
- Assist with furniture assembly and general shop work when required
Qualifications
- Experience operating and programming CNC routers
- Drafting or CAD/CAM experience related to furniture, cabinetry, or millwork
- Strong understanding of furniture and cabinet construction
- Ability to read shop drawings and architectural plans
- Comfortable working with plywood, MDF, melamine, veneer panels, and solid wood
- Strong attention to detail and ability to verify your own work
- Able to work independently and manage multiple projects
- Comfortable working in both an office and active woodworking-shop environment
- Reliable, organized, and safety-conscious
- Able to lift and handle full-sized sheet materials with assistance
Software Experience Experience with any of the following is an asset:
- VCarve Pro
- Mozaik
- AutoCAD
- SketchUp
- Shapr3D
- Fusion 360
- Other furniture, cabinetry, or CNC programming software
What We’re Looking For The ideal candidate is equally comfortable working at a computer and on the shop floor. You should be able to look at a furniture drawing, understand how it needs to be built, create accurate parts, and confidently run the CNC to produce them. We are open to candidates who are especially strong in either CNC operation or drafting, provided they are motivated and capable of developing the other side of the position.
