Reporting to the Community Justice Specialist, the Community Justice Outreach Worker coordinates and facilitates the work of the Community Justice Committee regarding restorative justice referrals for pre/post-charge diversions.

The Community Justice Outreach

Worker increases public awareness and access of Applicants and Respondents to the Family Abuse Intervention Act and liaising with Community Justice stakeholders including RCMP, Community Corrections, Family Services, etc. Through outreach, raises the confidence of community members in Community Justice, and inspires community involvement in Community Justice programs and processes. Promotes/supports crime prevention initiatives and models healthy and sustainable lifestyles in the community. Gathers and distributes Government of Nunavut Justice and community resources and contact information to community members.

The Community Justice Outreach Worker provides executive support for the Community Justice Committee (CJC) and coordinates the CJC Diversion and Crime Prevention programs and provides written reports to the Regional Community Justice Specialists.

The Community Justice Outreach Worker works closely with the Community Justice Specialist in the Government’s implementation and delivery of the Family Abuse Intervention Act (FAIA). The intention of the Act is to provide safety to victims and support their families to allow victims and their families to remain in their home,



where they have access to family, school, employment and community support.

This position is responsible for facilitating communication between the Department of Justice, RCMP, Crown, and other community organizations in the areas of Diversion, Family Abuse Intervention Act, victim services, crime prevention, and offender reintegration.

The Community Justice Outreach Worker provides support and assistance with public education and awareness about victim’s programs and victim’s issues and crime prevention.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are typically acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent and 3 years of related work experience.

This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a explicit Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit,



Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
