We are currently accepting applications for Computer Technologist. Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Technical Support and guidance from the SeniorTechnologist, the Computer Technologist provides the Board with computer hardware,software and network maintenance, installation and repair.
The Computer
Technologist performs extensive network and server diagnostics and maintains and installs cable and wireless topologies as required.
The Computer
Technologist helps maintain a parts inventory, inspects and installs recent equipment and maintains relevant documentation.

Technologist works with staff in all Board locations to troubleshoot issues, devise solutions and implement decisions.
The Computer
Technologist plays an integral part in the annual Cyclical Upgrade Program implementation throughout the Board.
The Computer
Technologist provides software support to staff and students, with the Microsoft 365 suite of services being a prime example. Travel to multiple worksites is required.

Home School is South Grenville District High School with support to locations of North Grenville Family of Schools

Qualifications and Experience:
- Three year community college diploma in computer technology field.
- A minimum of two years experience in the support and maintenance of computer equipment and networks is required.
- Travel to various worksites, sometimes within the same day, is required.
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required.
Skills Required:
- Advanced technical skills (e.g. repair and maintain all types of computers,
- peripherals and networking components including UTP cable, fiber optic cable,
- switches and wireless access points)
- Ability to take initiative and develop innovative solutions when making decisions,
- determining corrective or appropriate actions and making recommendations
- Well-developed research, analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Advanced expertise with basic and advanced diagnostic tools and equipment
- Advanced knowledge of local and wide area network concepts
- Willingness and ability to learn new systems, technologies, and processes and attend training/courses/professional development as required
- Well developed organizational and communication skills to organize priorities and deliver effective customer service strategies when dealing with people in a fast paced changing environment
- Well developed time management and administrative skills to prioritize work and manage multiple priorities and concurrent work
- Demonstrated ability to effectively comprehend technical manuals and documentation
- Ability to interpret building blueprints and wiring diagrams
- Demonstrated ability to understand and apply safety standards (e.g. asbestos procedures, fall prevention, ladders, lifting)
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to understand and respond to inquiries, using tact and diplomacy when dealing with suppliers, computer companies and Board personnel
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Advanced knowledge of Windows 10, Windows 11 and Windows Server Operating Systems
- Advanced knowledge of networking protocols
- Working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software, email and the Internet
- Working knowledge of a large variety of application software to assist and troubleshoot problems with each application
- Well developed oral and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when accessing information (e.g. personal file shares).
- Advanced knowledge of Apple IOS platform
- Intermediate knowledge of Android platforms
- Intermediate knowledge of Mobile Device Management (MDM) strategies (e.g Microsoft Intune)
- Advanced knowledge of cloud-based computing with emphasis on support of Microsoft 365
- Advanced knowledge and operation of Large Format Touch Screen technologies.
- Knowledge of call center functionality
- Understanding of Information Technology Information Library (ITIL)
Duties & Responsibilities:
- During the Cyclical Upgrade Program, acts as a team lead by overseeing the upgrade from start to finish including planning, scheduling and organizing with the technical team and documenting all aspects of the implementation process (e.g. consultation with principal, creating an inventory list of tech equipment, including mobile devices, creating an inventory of software programs & respective licenses).
- Prioritizes and manages requests for technical services (e.g. board office/regional office staff, Trustees & school based staff; students)
- Develops and implements processes for troubleshooting and diagnostic procedures
- Diagnoses and troubleshoots problems using advanced diagnostic tools, techniques and processes
- Consults with facilities staff to coordinate technical work related to installations and new construction
- Communicates and escalates higher level technical issues to Senior Technologist for further action
- Sets up and installs switchgear, wired and wireless networking, and network equipment replacement
- Manages and maintains local area networks (LANs)
- Deploys, supports and documents new and existing computers, peripherals and network connectivity products throughout the Board
- Performs repairs to existing computers, peripheral and connectivity devices, as required
- Installs, upgrades and supports Board licensed software
- Provides telephone, remote, and on-site technical and software support for all Board staff
- Monitors, maintains and documents technical inventory at Board sites including updates to wiring/wireless diagrams
- Maintains and carries out preventative maintenance schedule
- Manages and maintains service request information in ticket management system for team assignments including open ticket monitoring, work completion, solution documentation and closure
- Provides support and in-service training for staff on all applications with emphasis on Microsoft 365
- Maintains confidentiality during access to sensitive information (email, personal file shares)
- Upon request, may be responsible for researching new technologies to assist solve business programs; regularly participates as a member of a project team
- Performs other related duties as required
- Demonstrates good attendance and work in a healthy and safe manner
Effort Required (Physical & Mental):
- Work requires heavy manual effort and physical exertion e.g. prolonged standing, walking, climbing stairs, climbing ladders, crouching under desks, using light tools (drilling) and moving computers and printers. Awkward physical positions such as kneeling, squatting, crawling and bending is common. Moderate to heavy lifting is required. Working in confined spaces is required.
- Able to cope with heavy physical demands related to the job.
- Ability to focus on important tasks simultaneously.
- Intense listening concentration required to diagnose problem and problem solving.
- High degree of mental concentration.
