Job Overview The Construction Manager – Transmission is responsible for leading the safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of transmission construction projects across Western Canada. This role provides field leadership, construction planning, resource coordination, and technical direction to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with contract requirements, customer expectations, and company standards.
The Construction Manager works closely with Project Managers, Foreperson, subcontractors, suppliers, client representatives, and internal teams to resolve field issues, support constructability, manage change, maintain productivity, and ensure all safety, quality, environmental, and operational expectations are met. This outlines the primary requirements of the role and may include additional duties as required.
Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary construction point of contact for Foreperson, trades, subcontractors, and field leadership on assigned transmission projects.
- Serve as the main escalation point for field-related issues, risks, constraints, and construction conflicts.
- Ensure construction activities are planned and executed in accordance with contract scope, drawings, specifications, schedule, safety requirements, quality standards, environmental obligations, and client expectations.
- Support Project Managers and department leadership in achieving safe production, schedule performance, cost control, margin protection, and strong customer satisfaction.
- Clearly identify issues requiring Project Manager, field leadership, or client attention, including urgency, impact, recommended action, and required follow-up.
- Ensure subcontractor activities are performed safely and in accordance with purchase orders, contracts, specifications, schedule, and quality requirements.
- Identify pending or actual changes to the work in a timely manner and communicate potential impacts to cost, schedule, scope, contract requirements, and customer relationships.
- Track all field information required to support accurate and timely change order requests, including labour, equipment, material, schedule impacts, photos, daily reports, and supporting documentation.
- Identify field construction problems and coordinate resolution with Project Managers, Foreperson, Superintendents, engineering support, client representatives, and vendors as required.
- Plan, coordinate, and commit required resources, including labour, supervision, equipment, tools, material, access, and specialty services to support construction execution.
- Manage punch lists, deficiencies, turnover items, and closeout requirements in cooperation with the customer and project team.
- Provide constructability input, production assumptions, resource planning, risk identification, and field execution support during estimating, bid reviews, site meetings, and project handoff.
- Provide technical judgement and field input on client inquiries, non-conformance reports, safety matters, outage planning, access constraints, construction sequencing, and recovery plans.
- Develop and maintain qualified relationships with customers, utilities, vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams to support reliable service delivery and cost-effective execution.
- Support a strong safety culture across multiple sites by working with Project Managers, Foreperson, safety professionals, subcontractors, and crews to ensure safe work planning and execution.
- Conduct regular site inspections and ensure findings, deficiencies, and corrective actions are properly documented and addressed.
- Ensure crews and subcontractors complete required safety documentation, daily reports, permits, tailboards, hazard assessments, inspection records, and other project documentation.
- Perform field quality audits and inspections, communicate deficiencies, assign corrective actions, and confirm timely resolution.
- Work with the Quality Department and project team to improve field inspection forms, documentation, turnover packages, and quality processes.
- Provide clear leadership to field teams by making timely decisions, resolving complex issues, and maintaining accountability for safe and productive execution.
- Escalate operational risks, customer concerns, resource constraints, cost impacts,
and schedule challenges with recommended solutions and required actions.
- Communicate operational priorities, project expectations, schedule requirements, safety expectations, and performance targets to field and project teams.
- Provide input into operational planning, workforce planning, equipment planning, bidding strategy, and project execution improvements across the organization.
- Represent K-Line professionally with clients, utilities, subcontractors, suppliers, employees, and industry partners.
- Work cooperatively and respectfully with co-workers, field teams, customers, and support departments.

Qualifications and Requirements
- Ten (10) years of Construction Management experience within the high voltage Transmission industry is a requirement
- Post-secondary education in a related technical field
- Red Seal Certified Trade is preferred
- Highly organized with the ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines
- Strong field leadership and construction management skills in transmission line construction.
- Strong understanding of transmission construction methods, including access, foundations, structure assembly, structure installation, conductor stringing, grounding, restoration, and project closeout

- Proficient with Microsoft Office and other construction management, scheduling, reporting, and document control tools
