The Opportunity

Pacline Overhead Conveyors is seeking an experienced Controls Systems Specialist to join our Robotics & Automation team in a key role supporting the continued delivery of our automation projects. This is a backfill opportunity for an established position and offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects from initial design and programming through commissioning and start-up.

Reporting to the Robotics & Automation Manager, the Controls Systems Specialist is responsible for the technical execution and project management of small to mid-sized electrical and automation projects. The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams, vendors, and customers to develop and deliver reliable, innovative, and practical automation solutions, while providing hands-on technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and/or execute small to mid-sized controls and automation projects from design through project closeout.
- Develop controls designs and specify electrical hardware and automation components.
- Develop, program, and configure PLC and HMI systems.
- Create reusable programming templates, structures, and code libraries.
- Program and configure robotic systems, including Fanuc robots.
- Set up and commission VFD and servo systems.
- Configure and troubleshoot peripheral systems including vision systems, sensors, pneumatics, and other automation equipment.
- Develop and troubleshoot industrial networks, including topology, IP addressing, TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, and related protocols.
- Read, interpret, and mark up electrical schematics and drawings and provide feedback on electrical and field panel designs.
- Perform electrical, mechanical, and fluid power troubleshooting, adjustments, and assembly.
- Commission and debug equipment at customer sites and independently perform start-up activities.
- Participate in design reviews, process reviews, programming reviews, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), final documentation, and project closeout.
- Provide time estimates and technical input to support project quoting.
- Participate in procurement activities, including component selection and purchasing, and maintain vendor relationships.
- Generate purchase orders and work orders within the ERP system.
- Develop and verify systems while understanding and applying safety risk assessment principles.




- Manage client relationships and project scope under the direction of the Management Team.
- Provide technical support and collaborate effectively with project, engineering, production, and installation teams.

Qualifications & Experience

- Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Controls, Robotics, Automation, or a related discipline.
- 3–4 years of experience in controls and automation, including PLC/HMI programming; Rockwell/Allen-Bradley experience preferred.
- Experience programming and configuring Fanuc robots, VFDs, servo systems, vision systems, sensors, and pneumatics.
- Proven experience with independent commissioning, start-up, and troubleshooting of automated equipment.
- Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills, with the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and drawings.
- Strong understanding of industrial networks and communication protocols.
- Familiarity with project workflows, including design reviews, FAT, SAT, documentation, and project closeout.
- ERP experience, including POs and work orders, is an asset.
- Robust analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Professional, dependable, and accountable with a positive, team-oriented approach.
- Valid G driver's licence and passport, with reliable transportation.
- Willingness to travel throughout North America, approximately 25%.

Pay: $90,000.00-$110,000.00 per year
