Job Summary

Bienvenidos Latin Market is seeking an experienced, reliable, and organized Cook to join our kitchen team. We are a Latin grocery and prepared-foods business specializing in Latin American and Mexican foods.

The Cook will be responsible for preparing and cooking food according to established recipes, instructions, quantities and portion standards. This position requires someone who can work independently when needed, organize production efficiently and consistently maintain the quality, flavour and presentation of our products.

This is a kitchen-based food production role in a market environment, not a full-service restaurant. Weekend availability is required, as weekends are an significant part of our operations.

Duties

- Prepare and cook complete dishes and food items according to established recipes and procedures
- Follow established quantities, portions, cooking methods and production standards accurately
- Prepare ingredients including washing, cutting, measuring, seasoning and other preparation required for cooking
- Organize and coordinate food preparation and cooking tasks to complete production on schedule
- Maintain consistent quality, flavour and presentation of prepared foods
- Prepare Latin American and Mexican food items such as empanadas, burritos, meats, fillings, sauces and other prepared foods
- Portion, package and prepare food products for takeout and retail sale




- Keep workstations, utensils, and kitchen equipment clean and organized
- Follow food safety, sanitation, temperature, storage, and safe food-handling procedures
- Monitor ingredients and supplies needed for production and report items that are running low
- Use ingredients appropriately to help control waste
- Work closely with the rest of the kitchen team and communicate issues that may affect production
- Assist with other kitchen-related duties when required

Skills

- Previous experience working as a Cook
- Knowledge of basic cooking techniques, ingredients and kitchen equipment
- Ability to follow recipes, instructions, quantities and portion standards accurately
- Experience with Latin American, Mexican, Caribbean or similar cuisines is a strong asset
- Ability to organize and complete food production efficiently
- Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Good communication skills and ability to work well as part of a team
- Reliable, punctual, responsible, and organized
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform the physical duties normally associated with kitchen work
- Availability to work weekends on a regular basis

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent Pay: $20.00-$23.00 per hour
