Position Overview Reporting to the Senior Corporate Accountant, the Corporate Accountant & Financial Systems will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting of SMEDCO, while also supporting CCDF's accounting, funding programs and financial systems.

This position will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial information, coordinating reporting requirements, supporting the annual SMEDCO audit and ensuring the integrity of financial and lending system data.

The successful candidate will work independently on assigned responsibilities while receiving direction and oversight from the Senior Corporate Accountant.

What You Will Do

Accounting & Financial Reporting

- Manage the day-to-day accounting activities and financial transactions for SMEDCO.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, reconciliations, supporting schedules and variance information.
- Prepare journal entries, accruals and year-end working papers.
- Complete bank, investment, loan, general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare GST and payroll remittances and assist with corporate tax reporting.
- Support budgeting, forecasting,



cash flow projections and financial analysis.
- Maintain accurate and complete accounting records in accordance with established procedures and internal controls.

Audit & External Reporting
- Lead the accounting requirements for the annual SMEDCO audit.
- Prepare audit working papers, schedules, reconciliations and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate financial and statistical reporting required by funding partners, government agencies and other external stakeholders.
- Monitor reporting deadlines and ensure submissions are accurate, complete and supported by the accounting records.

Loan Accounting & Funding Programs
- Maintain accounting records associated with SMEDCO's loan portfolio and loan management system.
- Review loan disbursements and complete loan-related reconciliations and reporting.
- Complete and maintain Equifax reporting.
- Support the financial reporting requirements of CCDF funding programs.
- Reconcile financial, lending and program information and work with staff to resolve discrepancies.

FERN & Financial Systems
- Develop, maintain and improve custom FERN reports for management, the Board and external stakeholders.
- Monitor data quality and work with staff to identify and correct data issues.
- Complete regular reconciliations between FERN, accounting records and program reporting.
- Support improvements to financial and lending systems, including system testing and implementation.
- Work with the Senior Corporate Accountant and relevant staff to identify reporting and system requirements.

Financial Controls & Process Improvement
- Support the development and maintenance of financial policies, procedures and internal controls.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting and reporting processes.
- Maintain accounting and financial reporting procedures and documentation.
- Support consistent financial practices and data integrity across CCDF and SMEDCO.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of financial, corporate and client information.

Special Projects




- Support the transition of SMEDCO's banking services to a new financial institution.
- Participate in accounting, financial and reporting system projects.
- Work with the Chief Administrative Advisor to the CEO and external IT provider on accounting and financial system requirements, as required.
- Undertake financial analysis and other special projects as assigned.

What Qualifications Are We Looking For?
- Diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in accounting, finance or a related discipline.
- Minimum of three years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience preparing financial statements, reconciliations and management reports.
- Experience supporting or coordinating an external financial statement audit.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting and internal controls.
- Robust Microsoft Excel skills and experience with accounting software.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting or variance analysis is considered an asset.
- Experience with loan accounting, lending systems, government-funded programs or financial institutions is considered an asset.
- Experience with financial databases, reporting systems or data analysis is considered an asset.
- CPA designation or current enrolment in the CPA program is considered an asset.

Pay: $85,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
