Metro Vancouver Transit Police ("Transit Police") is the leader in regional public transit policing, operating across 22 communities. It provides policing services to all modes of transit: Bus, SeaBus, SkyTrain, and West Coast Express. In partnership with cross-regional partners, Transit Police prevents crime and provides coordinated police services to transit users throughout the region. It also seeks to have a workforce that is responsive to and reflective of the many diverse communities is serves.

Responsibilities

SUMMARY: Acts as the department representation on court related working groups to establish best practices and standards in the collection, extraction, disclosure and disposition of criminal cases. Researches and consults with internal and external clients and partners to obtain information in areas such as investigations, court processes and disclosure of material. Assists investigators with the preparation of electronic disclosure of materials to Crown Counsel by identifying various types of documents in order to classify records according to Business Rules. Reviews electronic data submissions (RTCC) to the Provincial Justice System for errors and failures including evidence text pages, criminal record, outstanding charges and grounds for detention. Maintains under the British Columbia Police Act, Special Provincial Constable status in order to conduct court duties.

Inputs

Members schedules, notifies and maintains Members’ court dates and changes. This involves obtaining court transcripts of trials when requested. Maintains court files in the police records management system. Direct and train members on thorough Crown Counsel submissions and legal detention of exhibits processes.

Other Information

This position involves high volume workloads, professional level duties,



independence and judgement and requires advanced knowledge of Transit Police’s software and programs (JUSTIN, PRIME, etc). Also, what makes this position unique to other police agencies is that we work with multiple Federal/Provincial Crown Counsel from the two regions which include all the various jurisdictions.

When necessary, this position reports to Watch Commanders, Operation NCO or Information Management Supervisor for any operational or management inconsistency or issue, that might potentially lead to civil liability or reflect potential areas of conflict and embarrassment to the Transit Police.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Requires Grade 12 plus post-secondary courses/training in law enforcement and the criminal code.

EXPERIENCE:

Requires up to two (2) years previous experience in a related position requiring: knowledge of rules of court processes and procedures; working knowledge of PRIME-BC, JUSTIN, and basic knowledge of CPIC. A further period of up to one (1) year in the job is required to acquire working knowledge of Transit Police policies and procedures.

Work Schedule

37.5 hours per week.

Hybrid This position offers the flexibility of working both on-site and remotely within B.C.

Rate of Pay

Group: 8 Salary: $38.94 - $46.71 per hour.

Conditions of Employment

Applicant will be required to possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain enhanced security clearance.
