POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Protective Services Manager/ Fire Chief, and under the general direction of the Hinton RCMP Detachment Services Supervisor, this position works closely with the operational members of the Hinton RCMP. This position is primarily responsible for providing efficient administration to continuously serve and meet the needs of the public regarding information, complaints, and emergency assistance. This position will obtain information required to assist the RCMP in documenting files while providing customer service to stakeholders and community residents impacted by an incident.
WORK RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receive, assess, and respond to front counter and telephone inquiries, complaints, and requests for information (e.g., joint police and community initiatives, criminal records checks, legislation, etc.) and services (e.g., motor vehicle collision reporting, fingerprinting services, etc.) from the public
- Provide information, advice, and options to clients to assist in their understanding of and compliance with administrative operational policies, guidelines, processes, and procedures
- Receive and handle emergency communication from the public, 911, and the RCMP Operational Communication Centre, record information on the details of the situation such as location, circumstances, number of individuals, witnesses, weapons involved, and notify as well as dispatch the appropriate responder(s)
- Research, input, modify, manipulate, track, analyze, extract, and delete data and information in a variety of automated systems used by the RCMP (such as, but not limited to: CPIC, CKIT, PIRS, PROS, TEAM) and manual filing systems; extract statistical data when required
- Maintain radio contact with regular members to provide pertinent information from data banks and relevant background material, such as potential for violence and/or suicidal tendencies, call back-up and other assistance for members, and support the well-being and safety of staff, the public, and victims
- Receive and record monies (e.g., fines, fingerprints, copies of accident reports), prepare invoices, and handle petty cash as designated
- Purchase and maintain office supplies and equipment, arrange for repairs and maintenance of equipment and facilities, and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment as assigned
- Provide a broad array of administrative support and services, such as: receive, sort, file, and distribute mail; arrange courier services; assist in the storage and safekeeping of exhibits and evidence, when assigned; transcribe internal and external correspondence (including notes and statements); and action ATIP requests under guidance of the supervisor
- Provide on-the-job training and coaching for other Detachment Services Assistants
- Undertake other duties as assigned
- Fulfill Criminal and Traffic court duties as required
- May be assigned a role within the Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC) for Disaster Services
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 2 years of work experience in a RCMP Detachment Services position or comparable protective services administrative office environment
- Post-Secondary Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in emergency communications, law enforcement, criminal justice, paralegal/legal assistant, office administration as it pertains to records management and accounting procedures, or a related field
- A combination of education and/or experience related to this position may be considered
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Completion of certification in CPIC, CKIT, PIRS, PROS, TEAM, JOIN, and eCollision software programs
- Knowledge of the Alberta Protection of Privacy Act
- Acquire sufficient experience and knowledge relating to the procedure of the Alberta Judicial Process Act
- Valid First Aid & CPR Certificate
- Satisfactory background screening is required for this position including an Enhanced Security Clearance
- A Class 5 Driver’s License with a satisfactory Driver’s abstract

Hours
Able to work evenings and weekends as required.
Physical Effort
Office-based work performed typically includes administrative duties and varying levels of physical effort, including moderate lifting (up to 10 kgs), sitting, walking, standing, pushing, pulling, reaching, driving, carrying. Repeated motion of office tasks.
Travel
No travel required for this position.
Work Environment
Normal office environment. Locations such as offices and facilities where emergency support services are readily available. Limited to moderate exposure to the public. Potential exposure to client volatility dealing with the public.
