Daily Responsibilities
The designer is a hybrid Interaction/Visual Designer in a 4-person squad (Interaction Designer, Visual Designer, Content Designer, Design Researcher), led by a Design Lead. They work daily with cross-functional partners: product managers, project managers, business analysts, developers, and QA. They own both the interaction logic and the visual quality of the work, produce solutions at the right fidelity for each audience, and bring their design direction to the squad.
What will you do?
User Experience designers shape the experiences we create through each of our digital products. You’ll work within an agile environment and iterative process, collaborating with interdisciplinary team members and stakeholders to analyze, design and convey your design vision.
You’ll use your expertise to delight users with designs that inspire, engage and excite. A natural problem solver, communicator and facilitator, you’ll be involved in every step of the process from idea generation to implementation.
What program/technology/software knowledge is essential for this role?
Figma is used most of the time, at an advanced level, including working with components and the design system. We also use Mural, Confluence, Jira, and Keynote. We use Maze for user testing and research.
Must-have Skills :
- Advanced digital product design across both interaction and visual design, for responsive web and native apps
- Strong visual craft: typography, visual hierarchy, layout, and concepting
- Experience designing with, and contributing to, complex design systems
- Lean UX within Agile dev teams
- Usability research and testing to validate solutions
- BA/BS degree in Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), or a related field or equivalent practical experience
- Portfolio that includes application design samples
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in designing usable interfaces across multiple channels and platforms
- Experience in an applied research setting including experience integrating user research into product designs and design practices
- Demonstrated ability to articulate design strategy, rational and logic; describing benefits and highlighting risks associated with design decisions
- Demonstrated expertise with design, prototyping, and research tools such as Figma, Mural, UserTesting.com.
Nice-to-have Skills:
- Has worked with large design teams and multiple stakeholders (product, business, technical)
- Experience creating user journeys, wireframes, and information architecture
- Advanced Figma experience
- MA/MS degree or certification in Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), or a related field
- Solid understanding of strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during each product phase
- Appreciation for the potential of 'design thinking'
- Experience working within a large organization and within an agile environment
Soft skills : Strong communication and presentation skills. Able to collaborate with other designers and cross-functional team members, manage stakeholders, and build relationships. Workshop facilitation is a nice to have.
