The Director of Finance will provide strategic and operational financial leadership across the organization, partnering closely with the CFO and senior leadership team to drive financial performance, strengthen controls, optimize working capital, and support long-term business growth.

This role will oversee financial planning and analysis, accounting, compliance, treasury, internal controls, and finance team development. The successful candidate will also play a key role in supporting acquisitions and managing the financial mechanics of the company's employee ownership, profit-sharing, and shared bonus programs.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Strategic Planning

- Partner with the CFO to develop and execute the company's financial strategy, annual operating plan, and long-range financial forecasts.
- Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes.
- Deliver timely and accurate management reporting and board-level financial presentations.
- Identify financial risks and opportunities to optimize working capital, margins, and return on invested capital within a wholesale/distribution environment.
- Provide financial and strategic insights on potential acquisition opportunities, including both qualitative and quantitative analysis.

Accounting & Compliance
- Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes while ensuring compliance with Canadian ASPE .
- Manage relationships with external auditors and maintain year-round audit readiness.
- Oversee provincial and federal tax planning and compliance in collaboration with external tax advisors.
- Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting.

Treasury, Banking & Capital Management
- Manage banking relationships, cash flow forecasting, and credit facilities.
- Monitor and optimize inventory financing, accounts receivable aging, and working capital cycles within an industrial wholesale environment.
- Provide leadership and oversight of cash management and liquidity planning.

Internal Controls & Governance
- Design, implement, and maintain a robust internal control framework appropriate for a mid-market, multi-site organization.




- Lead the continuous improvement of financial systems, ERP utilization, processes, and reporting infrastructure.
- Ensure appropriate segregation of duties and compliance with financial policies and procedures.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, automation, and financial controls.

Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Finance and Accounting team, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, timeliness, and continuous improvement.
- Establish clear performance expectations, conduct regular performance reviews, and develop succession plans within the department.
- Build a high-performing finance function that supports the organization's growth.
- Act as a trusted cross-functional business partner across the organization.

Employee Ownership, Profit Sharing & Shared Bonus Plan
- Oversee the financial mechanics and annual administration of the company's employee profit-sharing and shared bonus programs.
- Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and auditability of operating-income-linked bonus calculations, including reconciliation to audited financial results.
- Partner with HR and the CFO to clearly communicate program mechanics to employees and promote financial literacy and an ownership mindset.
- Maintain accurate records related to share/unit valuation, vesting, and allocations for the Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) or equivalent ownership structure, in coordination with external legal and tax advisors.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and provincial tax requirements related to employee profit-sharing plans.
- Support governance reporting to the employee ownership trustee group or equivalent oversight body regarding the financial performance supporting the ownership structure.




- Champion transparent, employee-facing financial reporting that clearly demonstrates the connection between company performance and shared financial outcomes.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

- CPA designation required.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.

Professional Experience
- Minimum 10 years of progressive finance and accounting experience , including at least 3–5 years in a senior finance leadership role .
- Experience in industrial distribution, wholesale, manufacturing, or MRO is preferred.
- Strong understanding of inventory-intensive, multi-site business models.
- Proven track record of building, developing, or improving finance teams and processes within a growing organization.
- Experience supporting strategic initiatives, acquisitions, or business transformation is an asset.

Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in financial modelling, Microsoft Excel, and management reporting .
- Strong working knowledge of Canadian ASPE .
- Experience with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, or similar platforms .
- Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, cash flow management, and internal controls.

- Strong executive presence with the credibility to influence and communicate effectively with senior leadership and the Board.
- Excellent business partnering skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information into explicit and actionable operational insights for non-finance professionals.

- Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Collaborative, adaptable, and comfortable working across diverse regional and cultural environments.
- Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.

Language Requirements
- Qualified fluency in English – required.
- Working proficiency in French, both written and spoken – considered an asset

Compensation- upto $170k+ bonus+benefits
