POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Director of Financial Reporting is a key member of the Finance team, responsible for the oversight and delivery of internal and external financial reporting for Tsuut’ina Nation. This role leads the coordination of regulatory reporting and audit processes, ensures compliance with financial reporting standards, and supports the development of strong internal controls. The Director plays a critical role in providing accurate, timely, and comprehensive financial information to support organizational decision-making, while mentoring finance staff and driving continuous improvement across financial reporting processes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Financial Reporting and Analysis– oversee the preparation of monthly financial reports. Compile and present consolidated schedules to support financial statement line items; analyze and validate balance sheet accounts and provide direction on required adjustments. Coordinate and financial close processes. Prepare consolidated debt schedules, including forecasting of interest and principal repayments. Maintain a thorough understanding of the organizational and corporate structure.
- Compliance, Audit, and Controls– manage regulatory reporting and tax filings. Develop, implement, and maintain internal control frameworks.



Oversee and review account reconciliation processes. Coordinate and support annual external audits. Support ongoing audits related to funded programs and compliance requirements. Monitor changes in financial reporting standards and assess implications for organizational reporting.
- Leadership and Team Management– provide leadership, mentorship, and oversight to Divisional Controllers. Manage direct reports, including performance evaluations, development planning, and day-to-day supervision. Collaborate with the CFO to improve processes, enhance efficiencies, and address operational challenges. Provide guidance and support to finance staff and promote strong internal customer service across the organization.
- Strategic and Operational Support– collaborate with the CFO to design and implement process improvements, ensuring appropriate controls are in place to mitigate risk. Contribute to senior-level reporting. Support procurement processes. Manage the annual insurance renewal process, and provide recommendations to the CFO.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

Desired Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, with public practice experience is required.




- Five (5) years of experience in a controller-level position.
- Two (2) years of experience working with First Nation communities in a financial reporting or audit capacity.
- Working knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS), Canadian GAAP, IFRS, and taxation.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 Applications.
- Experience with financial systems such as Xyntax, and Acumatica.

- Strong technical and analytical expertise.
