The Saralikitaaq Community Social Pediatric Center for Indigenous children and families is an innovative initiative grounded in a holistic approach inspired by the Dr. Julien Foundation model of community social pediatrics. Integrating medicine, law, social work, education, and culture, Saralikitaaq provides children with the coordinated support they need to grow up healthy and reach their full potential.

Monday - Friday, with regular evenings & some weekends

$62,400 - $70,720

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Director of Saralikitaaq, and in collaboration with the Youth Program Coordinator, the Educator will perform the following tasks:

Child & Youth Programming (40%)

- Working closely with the Youth Program Coordinator at Saralikitaaq to plan education focused activities
- Attending programming events to support children, with a particular focus on those with higher support needs.
- When necessary, intervening in crisis situations and following up with incident report or relevant case note documenting the crisis and intervention
- Supporting the Youth Program Coordinator in delivering workshops/activities for the children and families at Saralikitaaq




- Encouraging families to attend programming that may be relevant to their child's needs
- Actively promoting the activities at Saralikitaaq amongst the families, and collaborating with the team on identifying alternative ways to do so.
- Collaborating with the Youth Program Coordinator to deliver thoughtful and secure programming activities throughout the year
- Helping with set up and tear down of activities, ensuring space is left clean and well organized

Individual Child Support & Casework (50%)

- In collaboration with the Family Support Workers, the Clinical Manager and the doctor, the Educator will actively participate in evaluating the needs of children on their caseload
- Maintaining a caseload of ~10 children
- Establishing and maintaining a relationship of trust with the children to ensure their needs and interests are at the center of all interventions.
- Establishing and maintaining a relationship of trust with the family to ensure they feel understood and respected as stakeholders and essential supports in the wellbeing of their children.
- In collaboration with the family and the interdisciplinary team, develop a plan that prioritizes appropriate milestone trajectories
- Regularly meeting counterpart on the team to discuss work and share resources
- In collaboration with the Clinical Manager, managing and organizing client files
- Assuring interventions take place with a spirit of collaboration and from a holistic perspective, in line with the model of community social pediatrics.
- Responding to urgent situations, assessing immediate needs,



and coordinating appropriate support and services
- When necessary, refer clients and accompanying clients to specialized services
- Developing age-appropriate resources and activities to support children's development and learning at home.
- Familiarizing oneself with Saralikitaaq & the NWSM’s confidentiality policies and adhering to them at all times
- Working transparently with families, ensuring informed and ongoing consent, and that clients know they can change or withdraw their consent at any time.

Peer Support and Participation:

- Attending and participating in staff meetings whether that be Saralikitaaq only or NWSM wide
- Embracing a collaborative and respectful environment amongst peers.
- Supporting the advancement of Saralikitaaq goals, objectives, and timelines.
- Embodying the mission and values of the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal
- Participating in trainings organized by the NWSM, at the request of Clinical Manager or Director of Saralikitaaq

QUALIFICATIONS

- An undergraduate degree in education or psychology with a specialization in early childhood development or in a field related to education, or
- A (DEC) in child care education, or an (AEC) in child care education + 2 years of related work experience
- Bilingualism in English and French mandatory
- Knowledge of the historical and contemporary realities of urban Indigenous populations
- Understanding of the diversity of Indigenous communities inside and outside of Quebec
- Experience in another Indigenous organization (asset)
- Knowledge of an Indigenous language (asset)
