About the Role:
At Scholars Education Centre West Springs, we know that helping a young learner succeed takes far more than just walking through a textbook. For elementary students, real learning only happens when they feel safe, understood, and truly engaged. The ability to form a genuine connection with a child is the foundation of everything we do.
We are seeking an Elementary Tutor who knows how to spark curiosity, build confidence, and make learning fun. You aren’t here to just mark worksheets or supervise table work; you are here to build trust, decode how each unique child learns, and find creative ways to enrich, extend, and adapt concepts so they deeply sink in.
What You’ll Do:
- Connect & Spark Curiosity: Build instant rapport with elementary students, meeting them where they are emotionally and academically to create a safe, encouraging space to learn.
- Adapt & Innovate: Go beyond standard drills by finding alternative ways to explain concepts—using visual models, creative metaphors, or interactive strategies to suit different learning styles.
- Enhance & Enrich: Take foundational concepts and stretch them for students who need extension, making learning an exciting adventure rather than a chore.
- Deliver Results: Teach in a low-ratio environment using Scholars’ proven methodology, balancing focus, active guidance, and equal attention across your students.
- Track & Celebrate Growth: Meticulously monitor progress while celebrating small wins,
helping young learners develop resilience and a lifelong love for learning.
What We Are Looking For:
- Subject Competency: Strong ability to teach foundational Alberta elementary literacy and mathematics up to Grade 6.
- Relational Intelligence: A natural ability to connect with children, build trust quickly, and calm students who feel frustrated, anxious, or easily distracted.
- Adaptive Teaching Skills: The creative ability to explain the same concept three different ways—shifting approaches seamlessly when a child gets stuck or needs a fresh perspective.
- Patience & Energy: A warm, encouraging, and enthusiastic presence that keeps young students engaged and motivated throughout their session.
- Structure & Detail: Strong organizational skills to manage up to 3 young learners at once, ensuring each child receives dedicated time, support, and feedback.
- Experience: Previous experience tutoring, teaching, working in early childhood education, or coaching young children is strongly preferred.
- Bonus: Ability or qualification to teach junior high or high school grade levels is a valuable asset.
Availability Requirements: Must be able to work a minimum of two shifts per week within our operational hours:
