Responsibilities This four (4) month assignment will provide opportunities for engagement with engineers, managers and others in different departments within the organization, and provide an understanding of some of the workings within the engineering department at BCRTC.

This position will provide assistance to Engineering with various projects related to maintaining and operating BCRTC rolling stock and rail assets. This includes research of mechanical or electrical issues on rolling stock and wayside elements, research and development of design standards and process improvements and compliance.

Requirements Qualifications Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science etc.)



Student - Third or Fourth year preferred with strong academic background in engineering from a related field.

Experience with AutoCAD and competence in Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Valid BC class 5 driver’s license is preferred.

Qualifications Currently enrolled in a recognized post-secondary Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science) Program at a BC university

Previous co-op experience is a strong asset

Previous industrial experience is an asset

Safety first attitude

Excellent verbal communication and writing skills

Proven interpersonal and leadership skills

Positive and self-motivated

Strong organizational and analytical skills The ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Proficient in the use of computer systems and software The desire to progress, learn, grow, and succeed

Demonstration of excellent grades

Other Information This is a 4-month co-op placement with the potential for an additional 4-month extension, subject to operational requirements and funding availability.

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

Work Schedule 37.5 hours per week.

Work Designation Resident

This position works predominately on-site.





Rate of Pay The salary for this position ranges from $65,600 - $98,400 per annum. Actual salary offered will be based on education, experience, skills, and qualifications as they relate to the role.

The Total Compensation Package, which includes Extended Health, Dental, Transit Pass and enrollment in the Public Service Pension Plan upon eligibility as well as other employment offerings will be discussed in detail as your application progresses.
