Position Overview: Under the direction of the Hydrometric Survey Supervisor conduct various hydrometric, physical and aquatic environment and land-based surveys including associated analysis, reporting and supporting activities along rivers and lakes that constitute Hydro's hydraulic network.

Responsibilities:

- Implement long term water quantity (hydrometric) and meteorological monitoring and reporting activities that support operational and licencing requirements, hydro-technical studies and environmental monitoring programs.
- Install and maintain a network of real time electronic Environmental Data Acquisition Platforms and their associated sensors. Tasks include programming loggers and sensors, establishing real-time telemetry, data management and field calibration measurements.
- Carry out long term physical water quality monitoring and reporting activities including determining suspended sediments, conductivity, bed load transport, surface and sub- surface erosion and sedimentation rates that support Hydro's various construction and environmental monitoring and protection programs.




- Perform hydro-acoustic surveys for determining water velocities, discharge and bathymetry including erosion and sedimentation measurements.
- Perform GPS surveys for determining vertical and horizontal reference.
- Following established standards and protocols, undertake data analysis, computations and reporting using advanced software on a wide variety of environmental parameters.
- Maintain detailed field notes and prepare reports on field activities.
- Responsible for the day-to-day monitoring deliverables of an assigned area of operation including job planning, safety awareness, cost control and routine administrative duties.
- Maintain effective communication and liaison within the work group and other related areas of the Corporation.

Qualifications:

- Successful completion of a two-year diploma in Environmental or Physical Science, Geomatics, Civil Engineering or Natural Resource Management Technology from an institute of recognized standing plus a minimum of one year of directly related experience;
- OR
- Grade 12 and completion of a certificate program in any of the above disciplines, and two years of directly related experience.
- Knowledge of data collection standards and methodologies related to water quantity and quality, bathymetric, meteorological, conventional and GPS based surveying.
- Knowledge of digital sonar sounders, GPS equipment, acquisition of bathymetric data as well as acoustic doppler current profilers (ADCP) and other hydrometric metering/monitoring systems.




- Possess an understanding of coordinate systems and vertical datum.
- Experience with programming, installing and maintaining electronic data acquisition systems.
- Knowledgeable in corporate safety rules, procedures and regulations related to the job.
- Demonstrated initiative and mature judgment, with the ability to make and implement sound decisions.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills and be capable of effectively communicating orally and in writing.
- Must be prepared to work away from the established headquarter zone for extended periods of time.
- Physically capable of performing the duties.
- Possess or be eligible to obtain a Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) for restricted firearms.
- Possess or be eligible to obtain a Pleasure Craft Operator Certificate.
- Possess and maintain a valid Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence with appropriate class.

Notes/Comments:

- Travel from the assembly point to the work site normally requires helicopter, boat transport, snowmobile or fixed wing transport.

Salary Range Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $33.35-$46.53 Hourly, $63,907.22-$89,169.34 Annually.
