As a member of the health care team, supports patient care through equipment and supply management, maintenance of a clean, safe environment and participation in selected patient care activities. The HCA provides unit support to patients, families and those providing service and/or care. Functions according to the for Health Care Aides.
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Previous cleaning or healthcare experience an asset
- Ability to work closely with staff on the unit including ability to accept assignments, delegation, requests and follow instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families and other members of the healthcare team, both verbal and written
- Ability to set and adjust priorities and organize work in response to unit needs
- Ability to use domestic and commercial cleaning equipment and to work with cleaning agents and germicides
- Ability to stand for long periods, repetitive reaching, repetitive bending, pushing and lifting using positive body mechanics
