Our business has grown significantly over the last few years with the addition of our Waterloo meat processing facility. This expansion and the significant growth in co-packing opportunities have created the need for an experienced, data driven Finance Director to lead and provide financial oversight across our plant operations, inventory management, and supply chain networks.
Reporting directly to the CEO and partnering closely with the Operations Directors , you will be the financial anchor for our production facility. You will turn raw operational metrics into actionable financial strategies to maximize plant margins and optimize standard costing frameworks. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Finance Director will also be actively involved in creating and managing an actionable 3-year business plan across the entire company.
This is a new position and suited for someone who is interested in developing, implementing and overseeing sustainable, financial management systems and processes to support and drive financial results.
The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $120,000 plus benefits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and oversee standard costing structures, monthly inventory valuations (raw materials, WIP, finished goods), and variance analyses (material, shrinkage, labor, overhead, facility maintenance).
- Lead the annual manufacturing budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes for plant expenditures, freight, and warehousing.
- Build and implement robust financial models and ROI analyses for equipment automation, facility expansions, and infrastructure investments.
- Generate weekly and monthly production flash reports, analyzing and highlighting scrap rates, labor efficiency, and capacity utilization.
- Identify and manage financial risks and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Working with the management team optimize profit margins.
- Provide leadership and manage the accounting team to ensure all day-to-day needs are being managed effectively.
- Partner with plant managers to identify cost-saving initiatives and streamline inventory reconciliation workflows.
- Prepare and present reports as required.
- Review contracts to ensure competitive position.
- Manage commodity costs and risks, including track fluctuating meat market prices to minimize costs.
- Analyze shipping costs and provide recommendations to ensure competitiveness and ROI.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or Business.
- CPA designation or actively working towards designation is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years progressive financial management experience,
- Minimum 2 years experience in a manufacturing, food processing,
distribution, or consumer goods environment.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and hands-on experience with manufacturing ERP modules (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics).
- Able to simplify and effectively communicate complex financial concepts to floor supervisors and plant staff.
- Strong cross-functional leadership skills.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong ethical standards and integrity.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Team player with the ability to work collaboratively with QA, maintenance, planning, procurement, packaging, and senior leadership.
- Excellent communication skills both verbally and written.
- Able to sit for extended period of time in an office-based environment within the processing facility, and able to spend time on the production floor as required.
