We are seeking Freelance Community Interpreters to facilitate effective communication across diverse settings. The ideal candidate will possess strong language proficiency and excellent interpersonal skills to accurately interpret spoken and written language. This role is vital in bridging communication gaps in various environments, including healthcare, legal, educational, and community services.

The Interpreter will work closely with clients and professionals to ensure clear understanding and seamless interactions.

PRIORITY LANGUAGES: Tigrinya, Kurdish, Rohingya, Polish, Albanian, Punjabi, French, Hindi, Swahili, Pashto, Vietnamese, Khmer, Somali, and Nepali. However, applications for all languages are welcome.

Duties

- Provide accurate interpretation of spoken language between parties in real time across multiple languages, including English and bilingual contexts.
- Facilitate effective communication during meetings, conferences, medical appointments, legal proceedings, educational settings, and community events.
- Accurately convey the meaning, tone, and intent of speakers while maintaining impartiality and professionalism.
- Maintain confidentiality of all interpreted information in accordance with privacy standards and professional ethics.
- Adapt communication approaches to support individuals from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
- Work collaboratively with clients,



service providers, and professionals to ensure clear and effective communication.

Experience / Qualifications

- Formal training in interpretation from a recognized institution OR the ability to enroll in our Community Interpreter Core Training Program, with subsidies available.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and at least one additional language, demonstrated through ILSAT or CILISAT, or the ability to complete language proficiency testing.
- Proven experience in interpretation within diverse settings such as healthcare, legal, educational, or community services is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey messages accurately and effectively across different audiences.
- Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality, skilled boundaries, and interpreter ethics.
- Prior experience working with bilingual populations or multicultural communities is considered an asset.
