Be the first friendly face at BAAC
Bay Area Athletic Club is Burlington's home for kickboxing, boxing, and martial arts - a family-oriented club where kids as young as five, teens, and adults train side by side, and where world-class coaching sits alongside potluck dinners and a real sense of community. We are also the national headquarters for WAKO Canada, the national kickboxing association, so there is always something bigger going on here than a single class schedule.
We are looking for a warm, dependable Front Desk Associate to run our front desk on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings and some Saturday mornings. Weeknights are our busiest hours, when the kids' and teen classes are in full swing and parents are coming and going. If you like people, communicate well, and stay organized when it gets loud, you will fit right in.
Please note: a cover letter is required. Applications without one will not be considered - details below.
The Schedule
Your core shifts are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM/4:30 PM - 8:00PM, plus some Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Because we host WAKO Canada, there will also be occasional additional hours to support the national organization - tournaments, events, and administrative pushes. We always give plenty of notice for those, and they are paid at the same rate.
Our evening classes depend on the front desk being staffed, so we need someone who can commit to the core hours consistently and long-term, and who can be flexible about the occasional extra shift. If you are looking for something seasonal or short-term, this is not the right fit.
What You Will Do
Greet members, students, and parents, answer questions, and keep evenings running smoothly. Sell memberships and walk prospective students and families through their options. Call and follow up on leads and trial-class inquiries by phone, email, and text.
Create short-form social media content - reels and stories from classes, sparring, and events for our Instagram. Support WAKO Canada events and administration as needed. Keep the front desk and lobby tidy and welcoming.
What We Are Looking For
Friendly, outgoing, and comfortable talking to both kids and parents. Confident on the phone - you will be making outbound calls to prospective members, not just answering them. Strong written communication - your emails and texts to members and prospects represent the club and the national association.
Reliable, on time, every shift. Available for some Saturday mornings and occasional extra hours with notice. Comfortable with basic computer systems, phones, and email. Confident filming and editing reels for Instagram and TikTok.
Customer service or sales experience is an asset, but we will train the right person. No martial arts background required - an interest in the sport is a bonus.
How We Work
Our shifts are busy from start to finish, and we expect you to be engaged in the work for the full shift. When there is a quiet moment at the desk, there is always something that moves the club forward - a lead to call back, a reel to film or edit, a lobby to reset before the next class. Personal phone use, browsing, reading, and side projects are not part of the shift.
Using your phone to film and edit content for us is part of the job - that is different. We will show you exactly what to work on during slower stretches, so you are never guessing.
Our front desk dress code is a BAAC club t-shirt with black pants.
Why You Will Like It Here
Full use of our on-site gym and training facility. Free on-site parking. Club events and team potlucks. A predictable core schedule - extra hours always come with plenty of notice. A tight-knit, family-feel team and a gym full of regulars you will get to know by name. Real ownership of our social media presence. A front-row seat to the national kickboxing scene through WAKO Canada, and top-tier coaching in a sport worth learning.
How To Apply
Apply through Indeed with your resume AND a cover letter. We read every one, and it matters more to us than a polished resume.
In your cover letter, tell us: why you want this position, specifically at BAAC; why you think you would be a good fit for it; what your values are and how they show up in the way you work; who you are, with real details, not a template - we want a sense of the actual person; and confirm you are available for the Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evening shifts and some Saturday mornings, and let us know what else you have going on that we should know about.
Applications submitted without a cover letter will not be considered.
Interviews will be conducted over Zoom.
